So following the awesome Ducati track day last month, I was heading to see a mate the day after taking a few bits and had the panniers on. Heading out of town using the bus lane (it was busy traffic) and the bus lane was active for my use. As I approached a set of lights that had just changed to green for a straight-ahead-only junction, a car on the right decided to make a no-left turn. He literally turned as I was coming past him and was only going 25-ish but had no chance whatsoever to avoid it. I collided with the wing of the car and it bounced me off, up a curb and over a central reservation for the traffic approaching the junction from the left. Somehow, I kept the bike upright. Fortunately, not too much damage at first glance and the evo tech crash bobbins saved my leg (had my race boots on as well) and they put a huge dent in his wing and ripped his bumper off. I was sooooo annoyed. He said he was basically fed up with being stuck in a queue so tried to dive down a no-left turn. T*@T. Only ridden the bike to get Ducati to look at but the rear brake sticking on due to the bent level so had a warning light on the dash, won't change rider modes and the cruise won't work plus juddering when slowing down. Otherwise would have continued using it. They are also so busy its taken 3 weeks to get a date for them to do a proper estimate. All when the weather actually got good!
Yes, I echo that sentiment, glad you walked away although I think you’ll feel a little bruised tomorrow. The bike can be fixed Andy
Wasn't much he could say against it and a witness also stopped who saw exactly what happened which was extremely useful.
Very sorry to read that, Glad you're OK. There are a lot of them out there. I am disappointed that your Ducati agent couldn't have made an exception for you.
Sorry to hear about your incident, pleased you're basically OK, shame about the bike but sounds as though it will repair. A similar thing happened to me six weeks ago, with driver changing lanes, hitting my nearside pannier, knocking me and the bike along the road on its side. Police and ambulance involved, bike recovered and now written off at two years old and still under warranty; not a Ducati. Other side's insurance not yet responded, and apparently they have three months to do so! No bike for summer touring at the moment, and am considering options. Hope things work out for you. Good luck. Tom.
That is bad news and really frustrating. Echo the sentiments about you being ok. Happened to me a couple years ago, young lad knocked me in to a field. said '' wasn't my fault, I did not see you '' I had to be restrained
On a slightly different note I got hit by a car has it exited a petrol station I hit his front wing, cause a bit of damage to my fazer I wasn't knocked off, luckily. The claim for my damage took months and months think was over a year! My insurance said its not our problem as your claiming from his! They eventually sent me a cheque for the damage I'd fixed myself. I was given some good advice that what I should of done is taken the car driver to court then his his insurance has to step in definitely would of speeded my case up.
Cheers for the info. I'm just awaiting the estimate to be approved so fingers crossed will get this sorted soon. Gutted to be missing the best of the summer weather.
Glad your ok. If there’s a lesson for some to learn from this, wear protective gear. To the chap on the pp 1260 that tried to keep up with me last week in Wales, pumps and shorts no gloves - idiot.
Glad to hear that ! Not too much damage to yourself I hope ...... the rest is just metal , plastic , money and insurance companies Variable-use sections of road are never really going to be safe IMO ...... I've seen shocking accident reports on "smart" motorways , where the hard-shoulder is in active use , but has a broken down vehicle in it . I used to see this all the time when I lived in hot countries .... I wondered if they had some kind of hotline to Fate , and were certain they weren't going to be coming off that day ? At the other end of the scale I'd see the ones with replica bikes , and replica leathers and helmets ..... ..... and they'd scream down the straights , then bottle out on the corners . A bit sad really .
