Ok everyone, I'm looking for a couple of suggestions to fill a couple of holes in my holiday planning. What I'm hoping for is suggestions regarding small towns to stop in and decent roads in the areas to torment the bike on so nothing too complicated  Basically my wife and I are heading off for about 12 days in July (she'll be on her Triumph Sprint so no 2 up riding) and while we've got where we're going sorted up to a point we're still messing about with parts of it. We'll be going from Bardonecchia to Bellagio on Lake Como then stopping there for 2 nights so somewhere to go in the full day we've got there? We've done most of the more popular passes in the area but suggestions regarding less well known ones will be great. From Bellagio we're heading north to the Black Forest where we've got 3 nights before we have to be away again so do we a) spend 1 night somewhere along the way so we can take a better route to Germany or b) just hoof it up through Switzerland and spend all the time in one hotel so we can do more riding without luggage? We've stopped in the Black Forest before so have a vague idea of where to go and I'd sooner avoid stopping in bigger towns and go for somewhere small where you're on decent roads 5 minutes after starting the bike up. After the Black Forest we're off to Chimay for 3 days watching classics being nailed around an open roads circuit so no riding bikes during that part of the holiday, I'll just concentrate on the local brews instead. Don't let jealousy stand in the way of helping me out here
Füssen is rather nice in Southern Germany. You could visit Neuschwanstein Castle at Schwangau. The original 'Disney castle'. Neuschwanstein Castle - Fairy Tale Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau Germany- I don't know how far off your route it is but the scenery is lovely. And then between Füssen and the Black Forest is Friedrichshafen on lake Constance where they built the Zeppelin airships. They have a modern (smaller) Zeppelin that you can go on around the lake. Flight "Friedrichshafen" - Zeppelin NT Just a thought
Schwangau looks pretty good and it'd be a decent day ride up there from Italy. We've already ticked the Liechtenstein box on a previous trip but there's nothing wrong with going again. I hate the north side of Lake Constance because of the traffic so finding a way to avoid it will be high on my list. We've done it 3 times before and it just never seems to improve. Thanks.
The B500 is epic, one of my all time favourites - Triberg is half decent (and has the highest waterfall in Germany!)
Stayed here a few years ago in the Mosel area, good roads, very nice owner (lots of vintage Ducati's) handy for Nurbergring as well. Biker only B&B - in the Heart of the German Rhineland
I've had a blast up the B500 a couple of times and it's already being looked on as part of the route to Chimay. Triberg looks interesting, we stopped in Bad Rippoldsau last year on one of our European jollies and it was nice enough but a bit of a one horse village so limited as to where to eat & drink. Schwangau has already been given the seal of approval by the wife for a 2 night stop so we can do a bit of sight seeing. She complains if it's just day after day of hammering bikes rather than actually stopping for a while and I've already sneaked the Stella Alpina into the holiday so I need to behave a bit
I only realised when I looked at google maps that the best route from Schwamgau to Triberg would take me near Balingen and last time a group of us went near there they set up an armed road block, took our passports, bike keys and documents off us then went a bit postal. It ended up with 6 of us having to make an escorted visit to a cash point and threats of bikes being impounded being mentioned. It wouldn't have been as bad if I hadn't high sided my ZX10R on the first day of the holiday so went back home, picked up my wifes FZ1 Yamaha then caught up with the others a couple of days later. Try to imagine the conversation when I phoned my wife to tell her why I'd be late arriving at the next hotel (she'd gone on a different route) and that she may never see her bike again. Happy days
The 500 is a crackig road, but don't go anywhere near it at a weekend, as it is policed heavily. How about poping across into the Vosges near Mulhouse and riding up through the Balons Or head for Frieburg and across to Colmar. The road from Todtnau is pretty good from what I recall. One of them is marked as 'difficult and dangerous' on the michelin maps  We have stayed at Schluchsee a few times. There is a hotel in the village withe a decent hotel and the pub is attached, which is a bonus Its worth doing a quick check to see if there are any events on, as we found there can be music festivals, cycle events, etc during June & July. Hope that helps
Black Forest Hotel, Guest house is a decent place to stop. 5-10 mins off the B500. Its a cheap, clean and friendly place run by a expat Brit couple who have been down there for some time. Ive used the place for several years now as a stop off point to and from Italy.
