Wouldn’t worry, it’s so long and wide and difficult even fast track day guys will be riding like noobies Intriguing proposition from FE! Road bikes only tho, being a road
The info is a bit thin on the ground at the moment. I have a feeling (although no confirmation or inside info) that it’s a cooperation with Dr Scholl. Meaning it’s not a ‘trackday’ as such. have to see what comes of it. As for road bike, not necessarily. IF it is actually a trackday, then as with the car days outside of TF.. you can run race cars. A mate of mine did a 7:51 on his second ever lap of the ring in TF ! And that was before he went racing. It’s a hard place to be on a bike. I’m fairly confident that with practice someone like Hickman would be sub 7 round there.
I’ve done four laps I think on a bike in total. I said I’d never ride it again in TF after nearly tucking the front on fluids in to the foxhole. Stayed on and survived, more luck than anything. I think I was running at a 7:58 years ago on my 1299. Had no idea where I was going although I go out to the ring a lot. It’s more for a social than anything. but yeah 7:51 (that was done On a shit old carbed r1 as well) man is an exceptional rider these days. 1:33’s at Cadwell in his second ever race ! I’d happily put money where my mouth is and say he’d be sub 7:30 easy enough now.
My mate did 3 days of the ring make in the early 000’s, said it was hard to remember especially between families out for a ride fast cars coaches and anything in between. He binned his R1, rode it home.
I sort of know where I’m going in a car. But on a bike - forget it. It’s like a different track to me.
So more IoM than say Silverstone. I flagged it up for my bud and he’s interested in going over, as in ride over ride the circuit ride back.
I used to be a member of the local IAM group..... yes I know there is some stigma associated with that. Anyway 2 years in a row they hired the Nurburgring, 150 of us rode over in groups. We were split into groups of 6 at the track. Groups were graded similar to track days, advanced, inters etc. Groups were released in 30 second intervals starting with advanced. Each group had a ring guide which you had to follow. My group guide had done 1000 laps of the ring. The guides then increased the pace until they started leaving you behind. No overtaking was allowed. It was brilliant. First year I did 12 laps, second year 14 laps, including 3 in row which was a bit much! You only saw the people in your group which made it feel like you had the place to yourself and following the guide meant you could be fast without knowing the circuit.
Certainly consider it. I like the idea above: split to groups with a ring instructor building pace. I enjoyed the ring. Only done a handful of laps but tbh when I have been over that way it’s the roads that get my attention over the ring. I found I couldn’t justify £100 or whatever for 4 laps which also can be iffy for a weather or traffic.
