This is an honest good an example of the popular classic Honda CX500 custom.
This appears to be in beautiful unrestored low mileage condition (29,221 recorded miles). The bike starts on the button and sounds lovely (slash pipes, but not too loud). It performs well for a 33 year old 500cc machine.
It has that robust feel to it which I suppose is what Honda were looking for to compete with the BMW flat twins & Moto Guzzis of the period.
These bikes were favoured by motorcycle couriers in and around London in particular well into the 1980’s.
This one however seems to have had a sheltered life and has come through the years in original condition.
The bike rides really well , gearbox and clutch are really good, brakes all good, speedo & rev counter working properly.

There is a V5C registration doc, reg number YLX 708X and the bike is currently SORN until Feb 2016.
Date of registration is 25/08/99 as the bike was imported from the USA at that time.
Frame number matches the V5C doc. The VIN plaque is intact on the frame.
There is an MOT until January 2016.
I'm the registered owner and you'll be viewing or collecting the machine from the V5C registered address.
The previous keeper was a good friend of mine (local) who purchased the bike in April 2012.
I'm not a motor trader, just a motorcyclist clearing his garage.

Cosmetically the bike is really clean and tidy. All the alloy is nicely polished. The paint on the frame is excellent, the paint on the tank and rear mudguard is all very good for age, only a few very minor marks here and there. The seat is very good as is the exhaust system including the collector box which has some very light surface rust but nothing bad.
Brand new tyres Avon Cobras back and front £250 value.
    Slash pipes sound wicked.
Both side & centre stands are in excellent condition.

The spoilers are that the previous owner fitted LED indicators, easily reversed.
    See pictures for the detail.

In general this is a superb example of the CX500.
A bomb proof and well remembered 33 year old tourer well worthy of classic status now & in the future. Don’t miss this superb example!

  12. 3 are going.....
    MTS1200S 2010, 535 Virago and the CX500....
    I might buy the 1956 250 AJS....'cause it's nice.

  13. The CX is going well now :upyeah:

  14. That's nice. If I had more room I would have a CX500 in a heartbeat.

    Good luck with the sale.

  15. Thanks, the two that have taken the trouble to have a look (home style dealers) offered over a grand, so I'm confident of a good price at auction.
I think it is them that put in the last few bids.
I've got a private buyer who may look tomorrow.
I do find auctions exciting :eek:and nerve racking :Walkingdead:

NO interest in the MTS1200S 404 views and 9 watchers, but not a single sausage of a call or email.
    I think I'll keep it.

The Side by Side freezer I'm giving away has more interested parties (12), but not as many views.

  16. The CX500 was purchased in a drunken stupor in a pub...(never carry wedges of cash when pissed...recent proverb of mine).
Virago I ended up taking as payment from someone who had asked for work to be done, but found himself without a job...
One was my fault and the other was...also probably my fault.
Note I've never ridden either of them.

  17. Everyone should ride a Virago 535, at least once. It's hilarious fun but a more uncomfortable bike I have never ridden.

  18. Not above telling the odd fib either :)

I cannot imagine trying to dispatch on an XV535.
Hmm. I cannot imagine anyone else who knows about bikes imagining such a thing either! :)

My mate who owned the Virago lent it to me for three months whilst my XJ900F was being repaired. Very decent of him, I thought, but do you think maybe he was hitting on me? :Hilarious:

Anyway, I handed the bike back to him with half the footpegs missing - thing grounded out at the least provocation - and offered to replace them but he just laughed and said forget it.

You know, these gay chaps aren't as bad as Steve makes out! They seem OK to me :D

  19. I believe the last owner was straight (loads of kids and grand kids), but very short (hence the Virago); the only dodgy thing was he looked a lot like Rolf Harris.
I'm way too ugly and fat to be gay; and I think her indoors would be annoyed (give her something else to moan about).

The bike does suit people with short legs, like women and dwarfs or a female midget.
No good for dispatch riders as 0-60 is......never.

  20. I can second the ground clearance thing....it's a non runner and I ground it out pushing it around the workshop.
