Hot Swing Arm On 2018 Multistrada 1260 S

  1. Just noticed today after a 415km ride yesterday. When I press the button for the ignition to turn on and the dash to run through its POST check I can hear weird noises from the rear suspension, which are coming from what I assume is the shock solenoid, they stop after 30-ish seconds. After riding home from town (about 30 km) the swing arm was hot enough to only be able to put my hand on it for a few seconds.
    Any ideas?

  2. Hub bearing? Have the pinch bolts been over tightened when chain was adjusted?

  3. The weird noise is the shock adjusting for pressure... nothing to worry about.

The rear swing arm will get hot as its connected to the engine... as well as taking away the heat from bearings and brakes...

But if in doubt take it to your dealer..

Was it hot all over - or?

  4. It's normal for the swingarm to get hot,
it becomes even longer and the chain tension is up to 5mm less

  5. That's a good point that I didn't think of. Though, as you say, depends on where the heat is concentrated.

  6. The tyres were changed 600+km ago, no issues. The poly tubing for my Scott oiler has now been eaten by my chain as the plastic tabs that the tubing clipped into had softened so much due to the heat from the swing arm that they had come adrift. The Scott oiler has been on there for at least 4,000 km and this has never happened before.

As for the weird noise, by weird I mean a new noise I've never heard before with a vaguely electrical-short quality to it.
