I know how competitive you lot are, this in my roof space just now, needs a picture and no cheating! Temperature is the little numbers, top right in picture.
Living room hit 34. garden hit 43 in the sun. roads are melting down here and we have fires. Turns out it is the end of the world
Fairly hot in Funchal. Had to dive into the odd shop for a bit of AC. Looking out to sea now from the balcony. Getting pissed.
pictures or it didn't happen, greenhouse is not house. Low humidity made it fine, could have stayed up there for an age.
My house (kitchen) is 31C apparently. This has far less effect on me than 11C does in winter. Pic is for you @Chris
What temps are you getting at night in the UK at the moment ? Aren’t your houses insulated? We’ve been going through the same heat wave and I recorded 37 degrees in the shade late afternoon yesterday, measured outside the window, behind half opened shutters (attic doesn’t count as it will be stupidly hot above the insulation, or sensors exposed in the sun, for obvious reasons). With opened windows in the deep of the night till early morning and then all shutters half closed during the day, we still manage a very decent 26 degrees max inside. We don’t have ac. How can it be this hot in your houses ?
This was a freak day here don't forget, and the forecasters actually got it pretty accurate. This morning has dropped at least 7 deg and I predict roof space temp equivalent for me will be 18 to 20 deg lower than yesterday come midday/1pm.
Houses in the UK are built to a (low) price. As a general rule they are poorly insulated and not built to withstand extremes of temperature.
Man, I feel for older folks… My Dad leaves in the southwest here, 20 miles east of Dax. That area gets pretty warm this time of year. They registered 41 in the shade too, yesterday. He lives in a 1780 built old house (one storey house, not a castle!) Stone walls, half a meter thick. With shutters half closed, he kept 24 inside yesterday, by late afternoon. Same in winter, with the fire going (huge opened hearth), he manages 17 inside without central heating when below zero outside. Our elders knew their stuff. Less people too, so maybe more affordable houses. Not sure we’re headed the right way…
Varies. My bedroom was 33deg through most of the night. And 27 this morning when I woke up. Highest we saw during the day in the end was 35.5deg in the living room and 43 in direct sunlight in the garden (S/E facing garden). Our whole area ran dry of water yesterday evening as well. Too many houses being built without the correct infrastructure. (Water board couldn’t pump it fast enough). I tend to think that insulation is all well and good but once the house is baked and heat soaked it just holds all the heat in. My old house was pretty cool in the summer, got it insulated and it was definitely a lot hotter in the summer. I guess that’s why most year round hot countries don’t have 3ft of loft insulation but also their houses are often made out of concrete too.
