Egypt's Suez Canal blocked by large container ship https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-56505413
Now that's a bucket list thing, standing on the riverbank watching those big boys floating past, awesome.
I was in South Korea where one of these 400 metre + ships was being commissioned. Their sheer size is impressive. Like muhassive!! A pro golfer couldn’t drive a ball the length of one.... So yeah, if a gust of wind hits one of these behemoths broadside, I can see it causing massive problems.
In 2003 I saw a UK Nuclear Sub and a few other Navy vessels going through Suez, with fighter jets circling and low flying armoured helicopters as support.
Been through there quite a few times on a ship the same size. At slow speed they are not easy to steer, regularly did a bit of sideways drifting. Other rumour is machinery failure, as that's my department I was always on edge till we got clear.
Should be stroll in the park for them pyramid engineers. If they wait another 6 days, high tide gains almost a foot and a half*. * from multiple sources, results differ slightly.
Not much needed to do that tbh. Once the gust finds a hold, momentum takes over on water. When I used to go sailing, it always amazed me just how easy it is to move even a very large yacht with just a light push
My mate’s married to a Polish bird and she’s smokin’!! She’s also Captain of a cross channel ferry. I’d post some pictures but it’ll be awkward asking him for some....
