The Chinese bearing is clean or is it lubricated? The Chinese manufacture every thing in grades? The best bearings from China meet the quality of anything in the world, but how do you know what you brought? Remember Jap crap, how good are Nitto, Toyo bearings now? Watch out for the Chinese!
Mini bike engines are a good example. The Chinese produce many from different companies which cost around £300 and are looked upon as throwaway it's hardly worth repairing them it's cheaper to buy another. Some people will strip them and fit better bearings and make them a bit more reliable A Japanese company produce the Daytona engine based on a Honda CRF. It costs more than double a Chinese engine but it's still built in China Because of its spec if it was built in Japan it's cost would be far too much. The Chinese are more than capable of building quality goods
They build Range Rovers there now to the same spec as in the UK - they will not cut corners either, it's in their make up to do a proper job. The cheap options and fakes of all products are largely cheap and nasty for sure - it can be a minefield. SKF bearings have a huge problem with cheap copies from China, so be sure what you are buying even if you think you have premium parts! SKF have an authentication App. Oh, and airbus make helicopters in China now
China's quality can veer between Carl Fabergé to Carlos Fandango. Its all about what you buy, where you buy and how stupid you are. If you pay peanuts for an item, then dont be surprised that it was made by monkeys. Quality always costs. The Chinese are more than capable of producing the most exquisite items. A quick visit to the British Museum should be enough to convince anyone. Alas stupid people prefer Argos.
I’m the Strategic procurement Manager of a division of a huge multinational Aviation manufacturing company, so as you can imagine I spend a lot of time weighing up the Pros and Cons of sourcing from low cost manufacturing regions including China. We purchase everything from Electronic components to CNC mechanical parts and Plastic mouldings. I’ve been to China quite a few times, along with other low cost manufacturing areas around the world. In my experience it’s all about specifying exactly what you need, and making sure you know who you are dealing with. There are lots of nice websites for Chinese companies showing modern buildings and equipment that are a completely false representation, and just fabricated to fool prospective customers. As you can imagine, if they are prepared to fabricate their image, you won’t receive what you ordered quality wise. On the other hand, I’ve visited many companies in China and other similar low cost manufacturing regions whose quality, procedures, accreditation and work ethic would embarrass most UK/European companies in the same industry. Annoyingly they are still far more cost effective to work with than UK companies, and believe me it really goes against the grain to place orders outside the UK for hundreds of thousands of Dollars worth of work. In a previous life I did a similar job for the Tobacco industry, and effectively helped engineer my own redundancy when the industry had to move itself out to low cost manufacturing regions. One pitfall to be wary of, even with a good supplier, is to ensure your English speaking point of contact knows what they are doing. I’ve dealt with a lot of internal sales people over the years who have only secured their position because their English is good, not because they are good at what they do. It’s far too big a subject to talk about here in detail, as there is so much to be weighed up, but if I was asked to give one piece of advice about dealing with Low Cost Manufacturing regions I’d say be completely sure who you are dealing with. Nasher.
My brother used to work for an engineering company. He now works for himself and is always busy working for other companies that draft him in to do work (he's an electrical hardware engineer) he makes and designs test cabinets, does all the hardware building, software programming and coding. I darent tell him but he is very skilled! About 10 years ago he went to a trade fair while he was working for his last company. They set up. On this occasion they were showing a pump with a counter that would work anywhere. It was designed to count the flow of fluid. So it could be used in oil pipelines, be it at the bottom of the ocean or, in the middle of the desert. It was self powered from recollection - the flow of fluid powered the unit and it had a battery that kept it charged...anyway, very clever (designed by my brother). At the trade show the Chinese turned up with the exact same unit. They copied my brothers design even down to the lathe marks on the casing. Apparently, my brother went to the shows hosts and told them what had just appeared. So, he tells me Sweden has the strictest copyrights laws anywhere in the world (or thereabouts) - within 3 hours they were on a plane home.... In defence of the chinese some stuff is good but as others have said here its a bit of a minefield. We had a lad working in our office a few years back from Germany. His mate worked for Audi but, lived in China (where they were made) he said that essentially the Germans run the plant from mid mangement and upwards and the chinese just put it all together.
Agreed yes thats the problem; you dont know what you buying; when you buy Chinese? I was looking for bar-risers for a Renthal fat bar to be mounted on my scrambler, sent to Europe, and got varioius risers sent to me, i noticed they were expensive and didnt have the bolt anti-turning feature of the bolt in the Chinese offering The Chinese offering had a better NC provided machined surface, was better looking, AND shiner, plus would never require the bars to be removed to secure the bolt that secures the assembly to the top-yoke; I used china on my Ducati because it was the best nicest and only cost $39AUD not 80-150 E? Beautiful Chinese parts on my Ducati
You the guy I need, I have10 patents under examination, regarding improvement to reverse circulation (R/C) Percussion hammers, I need to find somebody to make the hammers for me? Help find a company with the skill, suitable machines, and heat treatment infrastructure. I have had parts made by the PLA millitary structure, through third party Chinese companies. I am allowed ZERO KNOWLEDGE AND CONTACT WITH THEM. The parts were made of a new type of steel produced in the military industrial's dedicated top-secret steel mills, which lasted almost 50% longer than the best pistons made anywhere in the West, and looked like Boeing 747 parts I need some suggestions of suitable companies, I have worked with the worlds largest companies in percussion-tools and know the Chinese are not interested in IP, only to fuck it up to get your technology?
Yes Chinese will overfish the oceans, remove all the horns from the rhinos, kill all the elephant and tigers, get horny as hell, do all your women, and take all your jobs, Note they work very hard, and can produce @ about 25% your cost? They will copy or buy Ducati as they have Benelli? Siesta anybody?
