I want to fit some bobbins for a track stand. How and where do i fit these? I have seen some on the end of the rear axle. Does this require some sort of modification?
My rear spindle is hollow. I measured the internal diameter and ordered a length of stainless steel rodto fit. Then I found some bobbins (M&P I think), pushed them on to the bar, worked out how long it needed to be then cut it back, then threaded the ends and fitted nylock nuts. Works a treat and no permanent damage to the bike
before I had a det of mounts welded onto the underside of the swingarm on my SS, I did exactly as Gilps has done, taking advantage of the hollow axle.
I drilled and tapped into the solid alloy block under the adjuster bolts. 6mm threaded bobbins I've had no problems.

I undo the nut at one end of the bar and then slide it out. Only takes a minute. The reason I fitted bobbins is the bike lives indoors. I have a paddock stand with wheels fitted which allows me to spin the bike around in tight spaces and it only comes with bobbin adapters, not cups. It's easier too to get the bike on to a stand using bobbins. If I want to remove the wheel I use a regular stand with cups or my abba stand. The wheel doesn't come off that often so the bobbins work for me.
I have one of those cheapy undertheswingarm paddock stands with pads to stop the swingarm getting scratched......... The two wheels allow the bike to be moved forwards and backwards only, but it can be steered into different positions. Easy rear wheel removal and adustment as access to the axle nuts isn't impeded by anything.
