How Do You Remove Tyre Paint

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by tricolore, Aug 25, 2014.

  1. Went to have a look at a bike yesterday, brand new tyres and the previous owner had just coloured in all the letters. It's not my cup of tea to be honest.

Can it be removed completely without leaving the corners of the letters in white, that would look even worse and without damaging the tyres.

  2. It depends on what paint was used, I reckon.

Brake cleaner might work and be the safest on most paints because it evaporates fast....try a small area. I suspect some black will lift as well but it should only be a smear.

  3. are you sure you are not happy with the highlighted letters.........i hear if you colour in the 'brembo' on the callipers that works too....:upyeah:

  4. Why worry? If you try to remove the paint it may end up looking a REAL mess. After all, unlike the bodywork etc., you'll change the tyres sooner or later :)

  5. Cellulose thinners should lift it..

  6. Or just black over it. It's only the side walls.

If they're supercorsas they'll only last a couple of thousand miles anyway!

  7. I agree, tyres are only temporary. Get out and ride, and in a few thousand miles they'll be gone without you having to put in any special effort at all.

  8. white tyre paint tends to dull and disappear pretty quickly....

  9. It's fine just leave it on. We promise not to mention it if we see you around :)

  10. Get some pink rim tape then nobody will see the tyre lettering, thus saving you any embarrassment...
