How Far Can I Ride With A Serv Alert Before My Belts Explode And I Die.

  1. So my serv alert has just popped up at 14900 on the 848. I can't afford to service it for s few weeks. Can I still commute until I can afford it or is dangerous.

  2. how old is your bike ben? sure they haven't been done before?
if its 2years old and getting close to the appropriate millage I wouldn't be overly stressed if you went over by a K or or two.
but dont blame me if they go. :Angelic::smileys:

  3. I get 3 seasons from my 999 belts as do a lot on here i believe. I changed mine a month or so ago having done 12,000miles. The old belts were in vgc and the tension well within spec.

  5. Same here, for the first time I ran my belts for three years, I do most of my own maintenance so they are checked every year, I'm sure they would have gone a lot longer as there wasn't any sign of deterioration.

  8. I bought a Fila 999R with 1500 miles on it - it had never had the belts changed and was 11 years old, I made sure it was started up while the previous owner still 'owned' it

  9. I suspect Ducati service have made a load of money over the years by replacing perfectly good belts although imam fairly inexperienced with Ducatis, so i may be wrong. Just going by stuff i have read over the years. How many instances have there been of belts failing? It would be interesting if somebody who is minted could cane their bike everywhere and never change the belt tomsee how long it lasted. Any volunteers?

  10. CCW ExactFit Belts have not had a belt failure in 8 years of supplying in the USA. Ducati kept upgrading theirs until they didn't have failures either. This doesn't mean you should risk your engine on the price of a set of belts. Personally on lower than regular mileage I go beyond the 2 years a little, but if more that 3 with higher mileage I would change as soon as possible just in case :)

  12. I've replaced the belts on my 36,000 mile 916 according to the mileage schedule but don't worry about time so much. Every time I have looked at the condition of the used ones coming off I thought why am I doing this, there's nothing wrong with them.
I know that the engines rev higher than cars that have 70k+ cambelt changes but when you consider that you can revolve the cams in a Ducati by hand there is much less stress on them.
The change intervals are pretty conservative I reckon.
