How far have you been on your monster ?

  1. Hi all
Just want to ask whats the longest trip/holiday tour you and ya Monsters have undertaken. Im new to Ducati having just bought a 1100evo and am loving it.
But the question is do thay tour ok. After 30 years of clockwork jap bikes im a bit worried about the Dukes old school air cooled engine. Im hoping to ride down to Austria and back in the summer @1500 miles which i did last year on a Z1000 no probs, is the Monster up to it ?

  2. Lots of people are riding monsters to World Ducati Week in Italy and they manage it.
Just a case ofvthe right luggage and go at a pace your happy with.
I think it can get pretty scorchio .
If people can run older monsters down there your Evo would be fine .

  3. Fair point.
But whilst at the dealers a month back they asked me if was interested in going to the WDW. On digging deeper it turns out all the bikes are being van`ed down!!!. He looked at me right queer when i said i wanted to ride down. Not very inspiring.

  4. The factory and back.

  5. We rode from Nottingham to Folkestone , tunnel to Calais, followed the coast all the way down to the Bordeux, across to Perpignan , round to Montpellier , up over the millau viaduct , travelled back via Paris and then home again to Nottingham.

I'm not sure how many miles it was but I'm sure it's a couple of thou at least, they were the older shape though (S2R's & S4R's)

  6. 2010 WDW 2 up on my 1100S to Rimini had 2 glorious weeks.
Looking forward to the same this June on my Multi

  7. So far I've not been further than the Isle of Man, Snowdownia and Glasgow on my Monster 696 (I live in Hampshire) but I'm riding it to WDW this summer. I'm a big fan of Kriega luggage - the high exhausts on a 696 rule out conventional panniers, but I've been away for a week before with a US20 and 2 x US10s on the back.

  8. Rich L came down to Misano on his monster last WDW - via the Alps, Futa Pass, Scarapia Pass - the only issue he had was sore neck, as the pace was up in places - on the motorways through france...

  9. Very impressive. i`ll be booking ferry then. I have a son that lives in Austria, that`s why i go. Last year was there during world Hog week ( by accident ) and was impressed. This year might tie it in with WDW.

  10. I reckon youll be fine sprocket.

The only downer I could envisage would be the constant fuel stops.

  11. True. One hundred miles to a tank full ( to reserve light anyway ) is the best ive managed. Ive found traveling on euro motorways there`s not too meany service stations so intend to

take three days down to Austria and use back roads to have some fun on the twisties !!!

  12. Will have to ditch the wife first !!. Im struggling for luggage as all the kit i kept from the Z1000 doesnt fit the Duke ( magnetic tank bag and Oxford sports throw-over panniers ). OH sod it, i`ll just strap jerry can to wifes back. That will give her somit to moan about:biggrin:

  13. Without the missus, you won't need much luggage. Problem solved.

  14. Just get a 600 Monster I get over 250 miles to every tank, and I make hubby take is own bike!

  15. Just amended it for you Katie.......

  16. Ha, Ha. Do you ride in them. Love to follow ( from a safe distance ):biggrin:

  17. No, I have to say as I am 5' 10" I never wear stilettos, they make me tower over everyone. I do have a slight weakness for handbags though!

  18. You shouldn't have any problem!
We rode to Bordeaux, south west of France (family duties...) and back in roughly 5 days (1500 miles+), and both monsters (S4RS & S4R) were fine. Tank bag for me with sat nav inside and tailbags for both.
    Hope you enjoy!
