How much lateral movement is OK in the 848 rear shock?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by redsail, May 18, 2013.

  1. If I grab the rear shock by the cylinder I can rotate it about 5-10 degrees on my 848 Evo. It's very loose and wobbly. I had two chaps look at it while I was out today and they didn't think it was normal but couldn't say for sure (non ducati riders). How much free play is normal?

  2. if the shock rotates its the spherical bearings in the ends...........

  3. and thats OK.....

  4. Thanks for the reply. From what I can see the top is attached with a pin that passes through the top of the shock mounting and the 'forks' that the shock is attached to. i don't see a spherical joint up there (i see the one at the bottom of some kind of linking arm) There is a gap between the two forks and the shock mounting and that,s where the free play is. Looks like there should be a washer or bush there? Sorry if this makes no sense, not sure of the correct description.

  5. It's normal as long as it don't hit on the height adjuster as mine was

  6. Ok thanks for putting my mind at rest
