Okay, got a new GPR deep tone can..... and i cant even figuire out how to fucking remove the stock exhausts... the rider seat just wont come out, i cant get my tools under it to remove the 10mm nut. wtf? any easy way of doing this? its pissing me off.
It's not 10 mm it's 17 mm and it's a long time since I had the stock seat/rearend and exhaust on . Getting the seat off is easy enough , just remove side underseat retainers , then under seat pan you have one either side 10 mm bolts or Allen head fixings ( can't remember which originals were ) , mine are now Allen bolts, remove these then you can lift the seat unit and tank up a few degrees , I then use a foam block to place underneath tank resting on cylinder head and fuel lines (hence foam) and then use a 17mm ratchet spanner to take seat tailpiece off as one unit. Once off exhaust is easy as fixings are exposed to remove heat shield and end can .
okay i took the seats off, and i took the springs off the stock exhaust, and now all thats left to do is, to remove the actual silencer, but it doesnt seem to nudge anywhere. any suggestions on what i can do to remove the silencer?
hi make sure you undo the retaining springs at the back of the silencer. i think there are three bolts secure the stock can to the subframe. it is a tight push fit onto the pipes. the gpr are also a tight fit. make sure the bracket is mounted the orientation you received it in and the retaining stud will align with a subframe bracket at the top. place the black spacers so the exhaust can support bracket is not being pulled up and twisted. the cans should be at a natural angle and at the rear high uptonthe subframe it takes a little jiggery pokery and is fiddly buy easy enough to mount them. put some washing up liquid on the black rubber so it slides over the cans easily. this will all make sense once you read it twice or thrice.
what do you mean the black rubbers? you mean the circle clamps that hold the gpr cans together? should i split the cans before installing them ?
the cans and manifold will go on together. you will have to slip the hanger brackets off to enable you to put the retaining stud through the subframe. the brackets have a rubber sleeve. these an be grippy. a little washing up liquid makes it a doddle refitting
there is no way of getting these exhausts on... are these designed for a monoposto? because look at the pics.... its not gonna fit in properly. its really really pissing me off. someone please help, im about to go crazy :frown:
you need to slide the brackets and rubber sleeves over the exhausts in the orientation in which you received them. where that black rubber bung is on the subframe the stud should go through there and then put the black spacers in to pack the space so they sit right. then aling the clamps and push the stud through the centre and tighten.
okay, but if i do that. the link pipe at the downpipe side looks like its about to come off like in picture 2? is that normal? also do i still need to put on the heat shield? cheers.
the clamps will pull the cans in alignment once fitted with the stud securing them. as they are they are just pointing out unsecured and wrong
thanks! il try that after ive calmed down for a bit do you think the exhaust heat shield is needed for these pipes? because its just gonna make things a lot harder if i have the heat shield in there.
I did not use the sheild. the cans do not get hot it looks like it could do with a good push on but it will not come off. one fact to remember is that the mono and biposto use the same stock exhaust systems with the same mounting points so there is no difference there... although the subframes themselves are slightly different where that black bung is identical where the stud goes
Fuckin hell Phil have you ever thought of becoming an Architect or maybe Walt Disney as a cartooner.
I tell you pete. i was never any good at etch-a-scetch. but after a few beers tonight trying to draw on a phone screen im even worse lol stephen hawkings can draw better than me
right, i got the exhaust on, even though the link pipe looks like its about to come off, it probably wont, tried to nudge it with my hands it wont move, However.. now i have the problem of rear lights and number plate holder... the stock 749 ones wont fit, can you help me with this? i dont know which number plate holder and which rear lights to use.
