My project bike has had a replacement ignition barrel in the past, and as a result only has one ignition key. Should I lose it - disaster. So it would be sensible to get myself a blank from Moto Rapido and then get it cut. Question is - is there anything sophisticated about this or could I take it down my local locksmith with the existing key and get them to copy it? Thanks!
Even easier than that. EBay sellers will cut you one from a photograph. I got one for my 996. Perfect. Something like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAGIVA-D...p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
I tried that at the local hardware store only to be told that their machine will not cut a double sided key, in other words, fine for a yale type or pvc door type but not motor vehicle related. I still have the blank sat there and hope I don’t lose my one and only
That’s strange… I got one cut for my 998S at a local locksmiths. No problem at all, although he did charge £10 or something for 2 mins work.
My local Ducati dealer recommended a locksmith that they use and he has cut a number of keys for me without a problem, with a cost of around £10. It might be worth asking to see if your local Dealer will help. I have also bought keys from the company in this link, that cut a non-transponder key from a photograph for me, as already mentioned above, they might be able to help you: https://www.key2code.co.uk/store/c58/Ducati_motorcycle_keys_cut_to_code.html#/ . Good luck. Tom.
Can a locksmith reconfigure (recode?) a lock to take a given key? The PO of my 998 ditched the gas tank cap and put in a non-lockable aftermarket one.. obviously I'd rather buy a used gas tank cap than replace the ignition barrel and the seat lock!
