How To Get The Red Key

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by comfysofa, May 7, 2016.

  1. As above. During a mixed week of stupidity and sheer bad luck one of the things that became apparent with my hyper was that i didnt/haven't got the red key.... Anyone know how much you have to pony up and what I have to do to get a replacement?

  2. £11 on eBay but you need the Dealer to programme it. Andy

  3. Just out of curiosity, do you get a red key these days? I thought you got 2 normal keys and a code card.

  4. Any idea of the dealer cost....? Roughly?

  5. Well.... I've got 2 black ones and the code card... I just assumed I needed/was supposed to have a red for programming more keys if needed...

  6. I have 2 x black keys and a code card for the Desmo, 1098R and Streetfighter S. No sign of any red keys.

All of these bikes are post 2008. I thought the red keys were prior to the code card.

  7. It's less than a 30 minute job and if you are cozy with your local dealer workshop it should be the sort of thing they would do as good will. Andy
Edit : got confused, this is for the latest generation keyless ignition. Sorry

  8. Dealer can't program a red key. You need to send your clocks to a specialist like 'Riderlogic' in OZ to get the code dumped and programmed to a key.

However, your bike only came with two black keys and a code card. No Red Key!

    Don't you have a handbook?

  9. Got a card, aluminium numbered tag and a spare black key with my 1098. Card has an electronic code and a mechancal code and I have no idea how either work. My 2002 ST4s had a code key for the immobiliser. Latest generation red key is for keyless ignition. Andy

  10. Yeah...got the handbook...just assumed they all came with a red key...I'll go dig it out in a bit...

  11. The electronic code is to bypass the imobiliser in case of an issue with your key.

The mechanical code it the key pattern, I presume.

I have no knowledge of the latest keyless systems Andy. You learn something every day.

  12. Just reading robaranos post I suppose I'm the same.... 2010 bike...

  14. Hmm - yep - that's my set up (2 blacks and a code card) but I seem to remember a couple of years ago with my old evo (61 plate) I seem to remember having an immobilizer problem and reprogramming a key in the garage - from memory I was putting one key in doing something and then putting the other in....

  15. Pretty sure I have a red key on the Pani ?

  16. There’s a company called Motomatrix in Welshpool who can create a red key for you if you send them your dash.
For a 999, they charge £180 for just a red key or £220 for a red and a black.
Considering the cost of obtaining a dash and key set, this is an absolute bargain.

  17. Just to throw it into utter confusion, I have the full set - 2 Black keys, Red key and a Code card. This is for a 2005 Monster S4R.

  18. Why is that confusing??

  19. Unless I am missing something I thought the general message above was that depending on the year of the bike, you got either a Red key or a Code card, but not both?

  20. code 1. two keys plus master
code 2. two keys and code card.
