How to install the top carbon fiber belt cover?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Dan512, Apr 5, 2013.

  1. Hi!

i got a good deal on a complete belt cover set in carbon fiber (3 pieces in all).

the 2 lower pieces are easy to install.

but us there a way to install the top one without dismanteling half the bike? Thought I read somewhere that you had to move a cable plug and that's it, but no way to get the plastic cover off that way!

Any ideas/tips apart from waiting for the replacemnt of the belt at 12k?

    Cheers,

    Dan

  2. Tank off is my thinking. Can't think how you'd get it off without. Also the carbon one is goin to be much less flexible so if you could wrestle the stock one out, you probably wouldn't get the carbon one back in.

  3. I changed mine for carbon & yes the tank needs to come off. Apart from that its fairly straight forward if you good with the spanners ;-)

  4. D'oh, should have planned it better.

Had half the front apart last week to put on the CF beak and install GPS power supply and garage door remote.

Well back to the start then I guess.

    Thanks guys!

  5. During winter, I also changed the last carbon camcover. Installed the other ones long time ago. Managed to do it with out removing the tank, but removed all fairing covers and loosened the brake lines. Still, it was quite PITA to get it on, trying not to scratch the nice carbon finish!

Here is a picture when I did it:

You say garage door remote..? More info on that?

  6. Farkle city LOL.

  7. Yep, I just hooked up a remote control using an Autoswitch AS7G, which you can get from Sportouring Bike Accessories for 22£

Hid it next to the fuse compartment in the front left.

  8. Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm thinking of installing the Autoswitch AS7G on my Multi and wanted to check that it plays okay with the Multi electrics? Did you hook it up to the high beam?
    Cheers

  9. Yes I did hook it up to the high beam initially, but there was an issue when the dealer tried to install the next firmware update, and they told me it was because of the Autoswitch (I think that's bollocks, but the dealer must know better ).

So I ended up wiring it up to the brake light. Easier access to cables, you pull up in front of your garage, and all you need to do to open the door is hit the brakes.

  10. Um thats handy I take it that every time you hit the brakes the garage door remote operates. By the way do you actualy have an electric garage door

  11. Cheers Dan

  12. And what do you mean by that ?

  13. How hard would it be to remove the rear subframe?

im just toying with a colour combo idea as when I finally buy a multi I can go get it painted to freshen it up. Some of my design I've done hinges on having the rear subframe powder coated though so wondered if its viable to easily remove all attached wiring etc
