Have taken the rubber mallet to it, everything seems to be undone, it wont shoft. Have searched both here a d on Andy W site and cant find an idiots 'how to' or similar So before i lose patience, and take a big hammer to the lot, any tips on how. Hoping i dont have to take it all off!!
Undo and unship front header, needs a bit of a tug to get it over the studs, that should help. Maybe some dubs on the joints n let it soak overnight, be ready to catch it, it weighs a ton!
Right, so have to remove all the front then?! And I know lets use star shaped nuts so no one can get them off?! What a f*cker. Whats the point of a jointed system if you just cant take it off?! This bike is such a pi55ing faff to do anything! Change a tyre, adjust the chain, get to the battery. Ffs and have to take the stand off to remove the bash plate?!! Grrrrr
Errr. Yep! Go easy on the studs, they're made of Camembert had to soak mine to get em undone. . Persevere you'll be grinning from ear to ear when it's done.
Dubbed up and a job for tomorrow. Bet after all this the fecker doesn't fit! Also doesn't look anywhere to attach the cable to try Andy's home made solution to the flapper valve. This is going to be more hassle than its worth...
Bradders, Turn off the garage light and go and have a glass of wine! Start again tomorrow. Yes it's a faff but those manifold nuts are made of cheese and any ham fisted attempts will cause more grief than you've got already. Yes, I'm afraid the front pipe does need to come off before the cat can be removed (and the centre stand as well if you've got one). You should be able to reuse the manifold gasket and the nuts (as long as they're not butchered). Mine were not star shaped though (2012 model)
Nor are mine tbh, i was looking at the head bolts and just thought 'i bet they are too!' And yep centre stand off.
Bradders you need to cut slots in your bash plates then you can remove with the stand on! There is a post somewhere on this! Great tip for next time! Also the header nuts are made of copper so make sure your spanner fits snug! If they are really tight...impact wrench/driver alternatively....10 X M8 COPPER FLASHED EXHAUST MANIFOLD NUT 8MM NUTS HIGH TEMP BN16 | eBay Spray something at the exhaust joint between header and cat so that at least that bit ain't seized! It's a bit fiddly the first time round, but not difficult!
they are not as aesthetically pleasing it's true, but when it's time to replace them (and where stud length allows) I have used double-height brass nuts on car/motorcycle exhausts for the past 40 years as they are the best solution when it comes to removal. Only time I couldn't use them was on turbocharger manifolds of course.
If you dont do it, you dont know if you can do it. Hopefully this time I will not lose any appendages... Two nuts off, didnt spot the third so thats having a soak. Bet the fecker doesn't fit now, in fact i guarantee it! Lol
Tbh got loads to do today or have to work at weekend, so even if it was all together I'd have to decline Mrs out tonight, son is away, so this is my job tonight to see if I can get sorted to ride Sunday
May mean space on the day....and these PR4s are awesome Btw if you use wets because its wet, dont need to worry about warmers. Tbh the tyres you run I wouldn't worry too much, just have 2 warm up laps, heavy acceleration and braking they'll be fine
