1260 How To Start Bike With Pin Code

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Marcello, Jun 26, 2019.

  1. Hello,

what's the process to start the bike without keys i.e. using the PIN code only?

    Thanks,
    Marcello

  2. Look in your owner manual. It explains it clearly. Have your dealer change the code to something you remember if unsure or do it yourself if you feel competent.
    Process is very easy.
    Used it on numerous occasions.

  3. Thank you, I had a look at the manual and the bit I am missing is how to switch the dash on without the key so that I can input the PIN.

  4. You switch the dash on the same way as with the FOB. Center switch.

  5. Thank you. I mean - do I need to remove the centre panel and push the button to input the pin?

  6. Yes and turn the switch counter-clockwise. Pin number request will show-up.

  7. I believe, the switch on the pictures exists on North American models only

  8. Just pop the cover off. it's designed to be removable and held in place with two rubber grommets.

  9. Yes, Euro bike is just a push button under the cover.

  10. The switch on the North-American model is designed to be readily accessible because we often lose our keys here.
We're just not that well organized compared to Euro riders.

I never use the NA switch to start the bike, always a button on the handlebar. Actually, what is the difference between NA switch (or EU button under the cover) and the button on the handlebar?

  12. Pop panel off & hold black button down. Make sure your starter switch is in on position. It should ask for pin-code which you then use the left hand switches to select. However check this is still programmed in after a service, as I've had the pin code go back to 0000 several times. It seems ducati default it adhoc'

  13. Does that work for other people’s bikes too?

  14. The button on the right side handlebar below the start button will only boot-up the display with the FOB nearby. The center switch does both. Currently, the right hand button is actually redundant because of its single use. In a re-design, the right hand button would boot-up the display with or without the FOB and I would have eliminated the center switch to use that area either as a small storage space or USB sockets.

  15. This is a very good point you are making here - I completely agree

  16. Only touched the switch by the steering head once to test my pin. Same with the old 15. Handle bar button always

  17. Used the PIN to start the bike for about 3 Months before dealer finally accept my complaints about the FOB eating 1 battery/week and send the request to Ducati to give me a new key FOB.
It is simple, but for emergencies. To use every single time is a pain.

  18. Funny you should mention that. When I got my Zumo 590 I cut all the audio wires off the loom but kept the USB socket and it now lives under that cover.
