Looking at changing the car and been shopping round and getting some part ex valuations Annoyingly I was told my car has a mileage discrepancy on the HPI database. The mileage is 100% genuine as I had a HPI report done when I bought the car and it's been main dealer serviced with mileages recorded on servicing invoices and mot certificates. The garage are saying it will cost £80 to investigate the HPI database and essltablish the cause of the discrepancy. Sounds like someone else has made a balls up and I'm getting hit 80 quid to resolve which obviously I need to if I want to sell my car as no one will touch it with a mileage discrepancy listed on the HPI report. Has anyone any experience of this ? Sounds like a scam or maybe just as simple as a different dealer has entered the incorrect mileage when doing a HPI valuation as I've done about 6 of valuations.
You can check mileages on the government website of your old mots . i think you need a current mot cert and you put the cert number in . It then shows all previous mot mileages . You may find the discrepancy there if somebody had put a wrong mileage in.
Cheers for the suggestions guys but already checked and all in order. Suspect a dealer getting a px valuation has done it.
You can contact them direct and request any data they have be corrected and it is normally for s nominal admin fee of about £25 New gdpr rules come in in May making it even easier
That's brilliant, I knew about the tax check one, but not the MOT, awesome way of verifying. Cheers Noobs
I nearly lost the sale of one of my bikes due to a dodgy HPi report given to my buyer. I purchased my own report from Experian, which was correct, and luckily the sale went through. I contacted HPi with my complaint over their incorrect report-were they interested? No.
No, cause HPi had already got your money by then, and in my experience with cars and bikes, once you have paid, they don't give a flying.....
Put a subject access request in (SAR) as they have to tell you what they hold on you. It’s a bit grey as it’s a vehicle not a person but you may get lucky. If it’s incorrect, and can be deemed personal information, they are obliged to take ‘reasonable steps’ to correct.
Sent an email with service history and mot certs and they have now corrected their mistake and removed the discrepancy flag
