Hyper 796 Decat Help?

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by Ryan, Jun 13, 2015.

  1. Hi all, looking for some information.
After returning for the Isle of Man TT and getting to open up my new bike iv decided I want to better it by getting a de cat pipe for the hypermotard 796 2012.
I have already fitted the Zard Peta race slip on exhaust.
I believe that the de cat will make it more responsive and able to breath better.
What I want to know is what's the best de cat pipe to go for, do I need to get my ECU Re mapped and if so where is the best place to have it done?
    Cheers in advance

  2. Hi Ryan,
I did the same thing on my hyper last year (De-Cat Pipes | Ducati Forum
I put a leo vince decay link pipe on my hyper and felt a lot better. also a lot louder.
You don't need the ECU remapped, but the engine management light may come on when you first start the bike due to the lambda sensors and no cat box but these can be turned off through the ECU.
It is fairly straightforward to fit yourself, will take around 2 hours, just make sure you have all the tools and parts ready....

  3. Hi mate thanks for the quick reply and info good to see someone else has done it.
I have found a Leo Vince de cat on eBay I will go for that one.
Using the lambda sensor plugs will that turn the engine management light out?
Also did you fit an after market air filter with that as well?
Without re mapping your ECU to the exhaust and de cat do you still notice a major difference in performance?
    Again thanks for the info

  4. Make sure the one on eBay is for a 796 as the 1100 is a different shape decat pipe.
No, those plugs are just blanking plugs so engine management light will come on. Only way I know of is to turn it off through ecu.
Yes performance is improved, best upgrade I did to my bike felt more responsive and louder. Like you said the engine can breathe. It also helped fuel consumption

  5. Excellent thanks for the info think what I will do is get the de cat fit it enjoy it for the summer then in the winter get it remapped so the light is not on (that would annoy me). Again appreciate your help once I get it fitted I will update this thread.
Duelly noted make sure it's the 796 pipes
    Thanks buddy

  6. O2 eliminators will turn off the lights, you can remove the lambda sensors and fit blanking plugs. About £33

  7. Hi Ryan, below is some info I've posted previously re the same mods you're thinking about I made to my 796. Bottom line is that the only difference you'll notice unless you have it remapped is the sound, investing the extra £350-£450 is the key, hope the following helps.
I ran mine for 2yrs with just a Zard Penta end can fitted and it made no difference whatsoever to the way the bike rode, it just sounded & looked a lot nicer. Last year I removed the Cat (used a Leo Vince kit too) and fitted a K & N air filter and ran it like that (with the Lambda sensors still fitted/connected) and ran it like that for a couple of months. It sounded even better but needed to refitted the baffles into the Zard so not to pi55 the neighbours off too much, it ran “ok”. Since then I’ve had a re-map done (Lambda's removed too) by Mark at BSD in Peterborough (BSD Performance – The home of motorcycle performance tuning - Ducati | BSD Performance ) what a difference !!!, it’s totally transformed the bike and is by far the best £350 I’ve spent on any mod in 40yrs of riding. There are other companies that can remap the newer Siemens type ECU the 796 uses, I just chose BSD on recommendation plus location.
    Cheers :upyeah:

  8. Again guys thanks for the information really helpful.

HyperC Yeah I would be wanting it re mapped especially when your saying it completey transformed the bike. But can I send my ECU away to BSD to have it re mapped or would I need to take the bike in?
I live in Scotland and it's a long way but iv heard a lot of good things about BSD and to be honest I would much prefer them to do the map for me?
And was it really that loud you had to put the baffles in? Because just now with my PETA with the baffles out it sound like an electric bike lol

  9. A remap is pretty much a waste unless the bike is on a dyno and you'll find it's the cat that's keeping her quite.
As for having the baffles back in mine here's an explanation I sent to another forum member :)
"I run mine with the DBK's in, unfortunately age seems to bring on some strange traits, 40yrs ago, in fact 20yrs ago, they'd have been in the bin for sure, yep I'm that old :p"

  10. Ahh okay I see, maybe need to be a day trip for that.
Haha that loud music to my ears
I found better use for my DBK's (paperweights). Haha
Thanks again I'm looking forward to this change now.

  11. Maybe another forum member can recommend someone closer to you that can do the Siemens ECU's now. BSD & CJS (in Bristol) were the only 2in the UK when I had mine done which is a couple of years ago now. Cheers

  12. To be honest mate unless they were also highly recommended by many consumers I wouldn't trust anybody up in Scotland. Plus I don't think any business up in Scotland has a rolling road for motorcycles.

  13. I've also fitted the Zard Penta slipons to my 2012 796. I've net yet fitted the Zard decat pipe but it's sitting at home waiting for me to do it. I've booked into Mark at BSD Friday week (26th June) so I'll be fitting the decat this weekend. I'll then be riding it around a bit that week to decide if I can live with the DB killers out or not. I suspect I'll put them back in as I've also passed my 'super loud bike' days. I'll let you know how it goes.. and I'll take some pics of the the decat fitting

  14. Thanks CamBJones appreciate it, would be helpful think I am going to go for the Leo Vince de cat? Anybody any information on the best one and if there is my difference from the Zard and the Leo Vince de cat pipe? I suppose it's just a section of pipe and shouldn't really matter as long as fitment is correct

  15. I've got a lot pipe and it's fine, easy to fit no issues (I used some hi temp copper gasket paste on assembly to ensure no leaks).

  16. I don't think they do leo Vince pipes any more so don't know if anyone has them left in stock (if they do you may get them cheaper!)

  17. The Leo Vince ones are listed on EBay at the moment for the 796 about £180.
    What is a Lot pipe?

  18. Sorry stupid predictive text. I got a lv pipe too.

  19. Ahh haha, yes I was going to buy the Leo Vince one. But I have Zard Cans. But again don't think it would matter.

  20. Here's a pic of my Zard decat in case that helps when looking at the LV decat pipe.

Also I went for the Pipercross air filter which I purchased from here thepipercrossshop.co.uk/

I'll put that in this weekend too.
