Hyper Hi from Suffolk

  1. Hi,
Thought I would say hello in the Hyper section.
I bought an 1100s on a 2007 plate only done 3k miles however has been serviced annually I swapped it for my 2008 fireblade. I have developed knee probs in the last year so thought I ought to change my rd bike, having gone to the dealer to buy the Aprillia Tuono he had the duke jumped out at me and boy am I glad I went for it.

I've got loads of questions about the hyper but they'll wait till I've had more fun and tried to work a few things out for myself..

    Happy hooligan fun....

    Nick

  2. Hi Nick,
I see you have an 1100s Hyper, I am new to this forum but not new to Ducati ( I have a 749R, and just bought a Hyper 796 3 weeks ago ). I am in Suffolk too and have been enjoying hooning around on the Hypermotard whilst this good weather has been with us.
How do you get on with the mirrors/handguards? I think they look cool, but very flimsy compared with a proper "moto" handguard ( like my old CCM 404DS or BMW R1200GS had ), so much so that when I clipped mine going into my garage, the tiny screws and plastic fitting holding them snapped and left me without a handguard or indicator, Bugger! Thinking of switching to race guards and standard mirrors, have you fitted these?
Which roads in Suffolk have you been riding most on your 1100, I find that the dual carriageways are hell with the windblast, but cant face putting on a fly screen as it spoils the look of the bike.
    Alan

  3. Im a Hyper Guy too from Ipswich

    Hi Guys

Im a Hyper 796 owner from Ipswich..

Had fun the other day, my Birthday as well, Was going to Parkies at Colchester, pulled into a petrol station and noticed oil dripping from oil filter area, just about got to Parkies ok all be it with white smoke trailing behind me, by the time I arrived my rear wheel/tyre was soaked in oil.. Turned out to be a failed filter..lucky to have got there in one piece..

Put a pair of Pilot 3 tyres on it, has transformed the bike. Stunning now...

    Regards

  6. Hi Noods,

sounds like you were lucky to make it to Parky's!
You say you had the Pilots fitted......Martin at Parky's talked me into fitting Pirelli Rosso Corsa's ( new last week ), but cannot comment how good they are yet, as not properly scrubbed in, but definitely better than the squared off Bridgestones that they replaced :)

Looks like the weather might finally be enticing me to get out more, it was bl**dy freezing last Saturday, and I had an IAM observed ride out for more than an hour and a half, plus a ride to Parky's.

Take care out there, and hope to meet up with you guys when the sun starts shining!

  7. Hi Al..
Glen was the one who persuaded me on the pilots.. They also scrub in quick.. I agree on the standard issue B stones mine where squared off when I got it second hand now. It's a joy to ride.. I was frozen too when I arrived on Sat I hope it's finally going to warm up a little now and we might meet up..

Be safe but have fun ..

  8. Glen was fairly keen on the Pilots when I spoke to him too, however Martin persuaded me otherwise...maybe he got a better deal on them!
How do you get on with the mirrors? I am not sure whether to fit the aftermarket mirrors and more rigid handguards, the thing is, although they make the bike very wide, I do like the clean look of the bike without mirror stalks...decisions, decisions!
What do you think of the new Hyper? I personally prefer mine, as the new one looks very heavy in the middle and has a massive radiator under the front end, mind you, the tail end is pretty neat..and they have fitted normal mirrors.
Be safe, but also be warm!

  9. Have not seen the new one yet in the flesh, but very happy with mine now, lots of teething problems running wise initially , "I think I have had my fair share of problems thank you Mr Ducati God in the Sky" I have the stock mirrors and yes I know what you mean, clipped them a few times in traffic.. I think fitting those on stalks would take something away.. So I wont be doing so.. I supplied my tyres myself, got them delivered to Parkies direct for them to fit, saved alot of money that way, just sourced them on line, easy... Have you got Termis? Im struggling to find a pair secondhand, Also thinking of taking the cat away too...

  10. The new one is a bit more powerful, has switchable engine maps ( I think), ABS option, but does not look quite as open and naked as the 796/1100. As they have now created a 2 bikes around the one engine/style ( Hypermotard and Hyperstrada touring!), it loses a bit of appeal in my opinion, not so focused.
I am torn about the mirrors, love them and hate them, but its quite costly to buy the racing handguards and mirrors, so will probably leave as is for now.
Mine is not fitted with Termi's, but I have the Arrow straight through headers/CAT removal, which seems to give good power and much better noise :), I was thinking of adding the Termi's mainly for looks, but a bit expensive! Mivv do a single side mounted pipe that looks cool, but you lose the underseat twin exhaust, depends on your taste I guess.
Definitely fit a tail tidy if you haven't already done so, plus an R and G Shocktube over the rear shock looks pretty good too. I have added a bit of carbon bling ( rear side panels and hugger ),but want to avoid putting too much carbon on as it looks a bit tacky after a while.
Anyway, have another IAM observed ride Saturday morning, so will be on best behaviour, and then spend time later cleaning off the salt and water...bring on the warm dry days! Might then take the 749R out for a stretch, although currently SORN due to weather.

  11. Just looked at new one on youtube... No not for me.. Tail nice but dont like the single low pipe look, prefer under seat look..
Got the R and G tail tidy and little plate, tidy was a sod to fit though, wiring too short.. need to get a shocktube to stop all that rubbish killing my spring etc... I use my bike for work, nearly all year round. Was thinking of a Leo Vince cat removal pipe and secondhand termis if I can get em, termis new £1300 just for end cans.... CRAZY..

  12. Funny how we prefer the original design, progress is not always more appealing. I am not convinced Termi's are worth the investment, but they do look very, very nice, but £1300 is way too much. Removing the cat seems good ( done by previous owner) as I rode mates 796 Monster back to back and mine seemed much sharper. I used to use bike for work every day ( BMW R1200 GS ), but have become a weekend warrior last two years, hope the Ducati cleans up ok.
