Hello All, I am in need of some help/advice, I'll try and explain. I have a 2012 Hypermotard 1100 Evo SP. I sat on it on Friday pushed the start button and.....nothing. I swapped out the battery with another bike that I know was ok and sill nothing, checked all fuses, all ok, and checked the side stand switch, looks fine. When I put the key in and switch on the ignition the dash lights up as usual. I tried starting with the clutch in, and still nothing, but if I have the clutch in and side stand up I can hear the solenoid clicking. If clutch out or side stand down, no clicking. the think that worries me most is that the neutral light is not on when the bike is in neutral, it seems as if the bike thinks its in gear so won't start. I've checked all I can think of all seems ok. has anyone got any Ideas.
Either the neutral switch is broken or the wire from it has become disconnected, or is broken. So pulling in the clutch and pressing the starter with the stand up should start the bike. The solenoid clicking means that the ECU is activating it but if it is clicking and the starter isn't operating you've got another problem as well. Try bridging the solenoid terminals to see if the starter turns. Be careful because if the starter operates there is a high current a lot of sparks.
Have you done any work on the bike prior to this fault , was it ok last time the bike was used . Derek said it there , if starter solenoid clicks its being energised , have you had any of the heavy starter cables off or earth leads off, have you been near the earth point on the horizontal cylinder on the gear stick side ....close to the bottom of the cylinder barrel
Cheers I'll have a look for the neutral switch and see if its ok, and see what happens when the solenoid it taken out of the equation.
Thanks for your reply and picture. To be fair the bike has never missed a beat, was ok last time out, so was shocked when it wouldn't start. I haven't done any work on it either, but I suppose that doesn't stop things working loose. I have a look at the earth as you suggested. Thanks.
did you get a resolution to this problem? I have similar issue (i think) where my bike wont start when its hot.
Hi. My problem seemed to be the battery charge. Apparently if the charge is not high enough the starter motor is disengaged to protect the starter. Once my battery was giving about 14 volts the problem cleared up. Sorry I can't help you more pal.
