Hi all, changing firk springs for wilbers lowering kit springs, how do you remove springs from rods ,just can't figure it out ,thought I could unscrew top cap and slide springs off but how?
Stand the internals upright, push down the spring and spacer and it will reveal the nut that needs to be held so you can unscrew the fork cap. Once the fork cap is off it will all come apart. NB usually you would remove the fork cap before removing all the internals and it’s not necessary to have removed the lower internal part, once the fork cap is off the spacer, washers and spring and oil all come out once it’s turned upside down.
Hi Paul, thanks for help done that and successfully removed spring from rhs, instructions state to use bushings supplied, where does this go or are there two variations of this fork.thanks
To be honest, I don’t know. I would have thought, looking at your springs and the the replacements in the photos you simply just need to swap the springs and don’t need the bushings/spacers provided. As a related aside, are you changing the rear suspension set up too?
Cool, otherwise your rake would be out of kilter and the handling of the bike would be dramatically changed. BTW, I’m assuming you have an 821 Hyperstrada? Have you run the VIN through Ducati’s recall checker https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/service-maintenance/recall-campaign The coils need to be changed on the bike and an inline filter put into the canbus to prevent possible voltage spikes from the original coils zapping the ecu or dash or bbs. Hopefully it’s been done by a PO
yeah canbus filter done and I just changed coils from beru to eldor, rhs leg done lhs leg is different again how to I remove this side
They look very similar to the forks on the Scramblers. On the LH leg I found that after removing the cap nut I was able to use a pair of long nosed pliers with the points in opposite to unscrew the internal piece, giving access to the spring.
Checking parts lists the Hyperstrada and Scrambler forks appear to be the same, at least on the base models, although the lengths may differ.
Hi Derek, thanks for reply ,yeah looks exactly same ,just tried with long nose pliers, not moving did you have to use much force to open it,is this same asyour setup
Yes it looks the same. Kyaba forks. As I recall it didn't need a lot of effort to unscrew. I had mine apart to fit Andreanni cartridges.
