Hyperthetical Question For The Masses

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by d8mok, Mar 25, 2015.

  1. Just wanted to get a few opinions on whether i should feel sour about a situation or not. Im mega stressed at work/home at moment so trying not to let things get to me but this has a bit (if it was real obviuosly)

Lets just say you had a bike (monster 1100 ) which you had owned for the last 4- 5years without fault. Bike was laid up for winter, but was used once at the start of march this year. All fine as expected.

Then bike is collected by a dealer the following week for its 7500 mile service and valve check. Bike is serviced and returned. The next ride out on the bike you get home to find oil everywhere leaking from a union between the oil cooler and piping.

Bike is promptly collected by dealer, sorted and returned . Along with a invoice for labour to rectify the leak and the faulty washer This is my sour point. I appreicate nobody works for free but taking my motor trade head off my bike was fine before and then it was faulty.

After some enquiries on the net and asking a few seperate garages you get told the oil cooler is required to be moved to do said service. Bike was fine before service but first ride its pissed its oil out everywhere. Servicing dealer confirnmed oil cooler is moved a bit but guarantees it wouldnt of created this problem.

I suppose i can see the dealer view that the union could of leaked at any point , its just bad timing straight after a service. I just need somone to tell me bluntly who's in the right/wrong so i can stop feeling sour. If im in the wrong please tell me as i'd like to continue using said dealer if he is right.

  2. Go and punch the dealer until he gives you your money back. If it wasn't leaking before the service and was afterwards, then it's clearly their fault. If he coughs up, all well and good, if he doesn't, name and shame.

  3. Thanks for fast reply. Let's see what others think. I should of done a poll lol.

  4. being in the motor trade i wouldn't of charged you just through sheer embarrassment.

  5. I'm Motor trade too mate. I try to think about stuff from both sides on all occasions as I know customers can be a handful at times.

  6. Just don't get paranoid and start thinking they did it on purpose

  7. What was the price of the invoice.

  8. The first invoice was £360 ish and second £34.

  9. Who supplied the "faulty washer" and was this cause?

  10. The washer was the original one on the bike from new. The join seal apparently wasn't broken during the service. Just the actual oil cooler simply moved to the side to perform the valve service. This is what I'm told anyway

  11. So was the washer faulty or not?

  12. Go back in and explain what you have said again, then swallow it and don't go back they really should not charge as they all ready got there money in the service and you have been there before,

  13. That puts a slightly different slant on it. If the service direction calls for them to remove the oil cooler I'd still say it was their lookout. If it doesn't just punch him and waive the refund...

  14. The literature I've seen says to remove completely. Which in that case the washer I guess is replaced. I've been told it was moved to the side. I think this has disturbed the seal if true.

I aired my concern after giving my card to pay the second invoice.

  15. I couldn't possibly answer. It was fine before. I have a .18 p washer on the second invoice

  16. I wouldnt have given payment and offered them the opportunity to take it to the small claims court.

  17. I presume the bike would have been started and run after the service and if so would have left the garage working correctly. As a self employed tradesman I would have put your problem right as a goodwill gesture. It could be a coincidence and if you have a good relationship with the dealer I would just put behind me and move on. If you are stressed in your own job don't let this add to it.

  18. Some good advice. Thanks guys. Yes I'm going to put it behind me but sometimes I just need some blunt opinions from other folk to get it out of my head.

Yes I thought I had a good relationship. I've got 1199 and monster and both services there. And my prior ducatis since 2010. So about £4k of work I think.

  19. Agree with Birdie move on and don't add to you stress, its serviced now ready for the summer :upyeah:
Are you going to mention dealer:Muted:

  20. What i have found in life is when money is involved there is no relationship, don't forget that.
