........and ordered a new petrol tank breather valve......... ........despite having correctly re-assembled one (new, two years ago) because it fell apart........... ........I just don't trust it.......... ........twice in the last few days I have found petrol dripping (or running) from the carb overflow pipes when the temperature rises............ .......and each time, I open the filler cap or when I remove the valve, the pressure is released in a nice big hiss......... ........so I reckon the valve must have been faulty since I got it, because it used to drip petrol from the overflows then as well....... .......it seems the pressure release resistance in the valve is too high, which might explain why the joint around the valve got slowly wider and wider until it came apart....... Vacuum release side is OK. ...........anyway, I decided I wouldn't risk a secondhand one or one that I didn't know exactly where it came from.....so a new one from a dealer is on it's way....... .........I'll be dead by the weekend when Mrs AL finds out what it cost......
Over twice what it cost two years ago................ Done a temporary job on the dodgy one......put a small slit in the short hose.....pressure blows out, but fuel doesn't, vacuum unaffected.
saved a few bob buying it now instead of next year. i told the misses if i bought another bike it would half the running costs.
It was £20 or thereabouts................... ...........two years ago. I'll tell her it will save as much in the cost of wasted petrol.........I reckon it could drain the tank, 'cos the pressure is overcoming the float assembly valves (which are new), so a sort of siphon is occurring.....
