After spending weeks/months looking at Ducati's I have bought a 749s from Dave Wood Racing. First of all I had only seen photos on the net of the bike but after speaking to Dave he assured me the bike was mint so I took the plunge and paid a deposit. I then popped in on my way home from London to Glasgow to have a look and was/am really impressed with the condition of the bike. The bike is a 55 reg but not the revamped model must have been old dealer stock maybe? But all looked good. i just have a wee niggle as to when the belts where last done as the bike has only covered 800 miles since 2009 when it was last serviced but full Ducati history till then has anyone any info on the bike they could forward me that would be great.
Hello and welcome! Nice looking bike, can't help with your question but hopefully someone will be along soon to help. Chris
Belts should be done asap. Every 2 years regardless of miles is the Ducati recommend, you can stretch it a bit, I get 3 seasons out of mine sometimes but 2009 with long intervals of standing is a risk even for a few miles. If you have to ride it home at least get them inspected and don't cane it. The dealer shouldn't sell you the bike to ride and should do them as part of the purchase imho. Reading your post again you say it was svcd in 09, were the belts actually done then?
Hi streetfighter I haven't yet picked up the bike I am heading back down to get it on the 24th September. I have also been on to the ducati garage who have been really helpful about the service history. And have just sent an email expressing my concerns on the belts and asking if he could have them done while the oil and filter is getting done.
Hello Deco, welcome. Congrats on the 749s, it was my fisr Ducati too. They are an awesome bike and quick enough to keep up with any lite bikw in twsity hilly stuff. As said, get the belts done, they need to be done every two yrs. Try and facttor this into the deal from the dealer you are buying off. If you are gonna ride it somewhere just take it handy, dont rev the nuts of it until belts are done. Make sure the bike is up to temp before you start riding hard ( +65 - 76 Cel ). Keep us posted, wear well.
Cheers everyone the dealer is going to do the belts while doing the service so really happy with that. Cheers for the offer Phil but want to keep the bike standard just now the only thing I am looking for is a bike dust cove if anyone knows who sell them?
