Ideas? - 1997 Clutch Master Cylinder (separate Reservoir Type)

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by The Royal Maharaja, May 13, 2015.

  1. Hello to all,

I am needing some knowledgeable advice, my clutch master cylinder on my 97SS has given up the good fight. And brembo offers rebuild kits for only the type that has the 'coffin' reservoir not the one that I have with the remote round plastic reservoir...

Does anyone have any ideas, moto rapido suggested calling around to see if aprilla or ktm used the same cylinder, but as the guy on the phone stated Brembo doesn't offer the kits...so I don't see why another manufacturer would have something.

Could I strip it and try to find specific seals? I do want the least hassle (need bike on road asap), but want to retain the stock pieces...

    I appreciate any guidance!
    Thanks
    Grant

PS: It's cool to find so many 'faces' from the old ducatisti forum, The Royal Maharaja is still going strong in superlight disguise now...

  2. My understanding is that Brembo do offer the kits, but not to UK buyers for reasons that I've forgotten (some bullshit law thing between them and Ducati for UK buyers, not sure on the details)

Although I understand they can be imported via:

Bevel Heaven Ducati Products - Brembo Brakes, rebuild kits and parts

The ktm/aprillia route is ok if you can find anyone who knows their stuff...???

I'm sorry I can't be of any more help than that but this is an area I would like to know a little more of myself ...

Sorry just realised it was a clutch kit you're looking for, not sure whether bevel heaven can help with this, maybe @Mr.R could hopefully offer some words of wisdom

  3. May be of use. These guys rebuild brembos as they have the parts. A quick refresh with new seals cost me £25

Otherwise aprillia do brembo kits which can be bought (or certainly used to be) after Ducati and brembo stopped selling direct to public

  4. It appears that Brembo supply kits to many UK KTM main dealers........and certain models of KTM have the same brake calipers as the SS.

As for clutch MCs, not sure if KTM have the same as the round Ducati MC, but the round one isn't uncommon......in fact both coffin type and round type were fitted to the 900s.

Anyway.........this advert indicates the repair kit is the same for both types....perhaps I'm wrong though.....

  5. Just for the archive.. the last 2 digits of the stamped number indicate the diameter of the cylinder. Marked in green. Mine happened to be a 13mm.

Bevel Heaven sorted me out seriously quickly...good guys.
