Idea's On Selling

  1. Looking to sell my 748 and wondered where you all think the best place to sell it is? Also what kind of price I should be looking at for a 'P' reg in good condition?

  2. I have just had a bike on Autorader for a week and in that time it has had 92 views and no interest. After 5 days on Autotrdaer I put it on Ebay as a buy it now or best offer and it took less than 30 hours to get the same number of views and receive a decent offer. Maybe try on here too . If you do an ebay auction with no reserve you are guaranteed to sell it at what someone is prepared to bid to on the day the auction ends although you may find the same bike would achieve a very different figure on another day.
IMO Ebay is by far the quickest way to sell a bike but remember wherever you sell it unless you are trading it in you will be dealing with the public so expect contact from people who should not be allowed out unsupervised.
Just look at similar bikes for sale to get an idea of value but remember that what they are offered for is very rarely what they actually sell for.

  6. If you are selling on eBay make sure you put a really long description in telling prospective buyers just how good it is, how reliable it is, how much fun it is to ride, remember you are selling it!, that means you need to make it as desirable as possible so take photos in a nice location, if you have a nice well maintained house get that in the shot it gives buyers confidence that they are not buying from a numpty, if you haven’t get shots in the countryside, really play up the good points, so many people just put a couple of half hearted lines in like “good condition, MOT’d, 12k miles, nice bike” and miss the chance to actually “sell” the bike, much better would be “a superb machine one of Ducati’s most exiting and desirable bikes, with beautiful gleaming red paint it really gets attention wherever I go on it, it’s been totally reliable and has never missed a beat in the last 3 years of ownership , I have always had the bike serviced regardless of cost and I doubt you’ll find a better cared for example, the tyres are nearly new” etc etc etc, bang on about all the positives, your selling!, mention any bad points of course but keep that to a minimum, insist they come to view, it instills confidence, ask for a deposit within 24 hours of auction end, do not allow any test rides, do not allow the buyer to be alone with the bike, get cash or funds in your account before it goes, don’t let them knock any money off when they turn up, that’s about it really, I’ve sold lots of bikes on eBay and with one exception where the ebayer clicked buy and was never heard of again it’s been great.
