Depends on your use? garage queen would be the latter 996/998, for every day use, a Honda and for some where in between, a black 999
I'm biased: 916/996/998 with top end rebuild, slipper clutch, lighter wheels, polished exhaust is all doable. You get a bike with real road presence, modern classic looks, great fun on track... not mega fast by current standards, but quick enough at all but the fastest tracks. But any of the options already mentioned here are tempting!
I've an AJS type 14 for sale....and you'll have plenty of change for air conditioning for your man cave!
On the 899 - wheels, exhaust, suspension. Another bike - probably a GSXR 600 or a triumph 1200 whatever they're called bonnevilles or whatever.
