Well, it's been 2 years and one month since I bought my last 1260 S GT, and a year since it was stolen. One cropped up at my local dealership, 1 owner who bought it from the same place (where I also bought my previous 1260 S GT) and I snapped it up same day for a little less than asking. I've bought all my previous mods which will now arrive over the next couple of weeks. I've also asked the Ducati garage to order and install the full termi system, ECU upgrade, matching top box and the black belly pan from the Pikes Peak edition. On top of that, I've ordered a bunch of mods and accessories I had for my last bike. The mileage is a little higher than I would have liked (mine got stolen around 12k km if I remember correctly?) but 20k km isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. https://ducatiamsterdam.nl/ducati-occasions/ducati-occasions#ducati-multistrada-1260-s-m1460531 The only items I'm still torn on is the seat and tyres. The seat... I've lost almost 10 kilos in 3 months (from 94.6kg to 86.8kg, target is 85kg) so it might not be as uncomfortable as I remember But the tyres, I last had pilot sport 5's on and it was a beast on those tyres, but I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions? That and a decent tracking system... Oh, heres my mod list: Throttle play 3d printed part - Ordered Stubby smoked screen, Puig - Ordered Radiator, engine and exhaust guard from evotech - Ordered GPS power cables - Ordered Screen spacers - Ordered SatNav mount - Ordered Quadlock mount - Ordered Tank bag mount - Ordered Black belly pan - Ordered (through Ducati, will be fitted for me) Full termi system - Ordered (through Ducati, will be fitted for me) Top box and matching panels - Ordered (through Ducati, will be fitted for me) ACF50 coverage - Have compressor and liquid, no ordering needed New tyres - TBD Tracking system - TBD
OK, I am not currently on a Multistrada, but Conti Road Attack 3. Had them on several bikes. Superb tyres, wet, dry and importantly on damp patches. Good miles, predictable, perform well even when worn.
Does anyone know what the going rate is for the slip on termi second hand is? I'm going to have 2 mid boxes spare, 2 factory end cans and now the slip on spare
Welcome back. I would have found it hard to stay away from a 1260 also. The 1260 GT is a gorgeous bike. Mods: May want to add +2R sprocket and chain to you list. There's no downside. Better snail speed management Better acceleration Use of your 6th gear and, No top end loss or fuel consumption. On that last note, you get the same top end albeit at a slightly higher RPM. I haven't notice any higher fuel consumption either.
Yea, I remember reading that was a good mod and wanted to get round to it on my last one... I got time to order what I need to swap out. Downside is, they only just fit new chain and sprockets to the bike. I could put them aside for storage but I honestly don't know if that's even a thing... or just accept the waste? It was in the sale price anyway. Oh, and nothing changes with electronics?
I Read you but I changed mine to +2R at the 600 miles first service. No regrets. The 1260 is my third Ducati. They're (Ducatis) all geared long for whatever reason. I wasn't going to wait another 15,000 km to change it for a few bucks. Life is too short.
Welcome back ! I might be in the minority, but personally I have no issues with the scorpion trail tyres. I have used pilot road 3 and 4s, plus a few other brands. Usually it is either PR4 or scorpion trails I fit depending on availability. Both grip great and both have similar wear rates.Never had any movement in wet or dry, so no reason to have a lack of confidence in them. I don't see the point in going for a sport tyre or different sports touring tyre if I can't safely reach the limits of these, there is no benefit. With respect to going up 2 teeth on the rear, it will not affect the indicated speed as that is done using the abs sensor. It will however affect traction and wheelie control, but only if you are agressive with the throttle. You will just see it kicking in a bit more. If you arent in the habit of getting well into 3 figures you probably won't notice the lost top end either. I did try a 42tooth rear but for me I prefered the original gearing.
Welcome back. Good that you’re on 2 wheels again. On my Multistrada I put Marchesini light weight wheels and my favourite Metzeler M9RR’s. They’re grippy, quick to turn and my brother just got 10-11,000 km out of a pair on a Honda VFR1200. That’s a heavy bike, he was well pleased and went straight for another set. The Conti Road Attack’s as recommended above are good too but personally I have found Michelins slow to turn. Having said that many people love ‘em, each to their own. PM me about the seat. The standard one won’t get any better no matter how much weight you lose.
Or, if your current C&S are new, fit a 14T front sprocket. You will probably need to split the new chain at the soft link and add a new one on reassembly. Little cost in doing this and the OEM chain length is correct with the 40T rear. I did this mod on my 1260 as I have a sprocket carrier setup and couldn't find a 42T rear to fit that. 14/40 is even shorter gearing than 15/42 but only slightly. Got to say I'm very pleased with this change. Drivability is significantly better and there are, as far as I can tell, no downsides. Have just completed a 2300 mile trip to Corsica with luggage and the girlfriend on the back, fuel consumption was no different to how it was previously.
