Does anyone have an Imola seat for sale or does anyone have any experience with other single seat units in a similar style. I am having an alloy tank made (replicating the standard unit) so would like to do the seat at the same time. Any advice would be welcomed.
It is being made by a local panel maker who works for Bentley. He is currently working on it though it has taken a long time before he has started. So long as its a good job I don't mind the wait. (though I don't yet know how much it will cost!) As soon as I get it back I will post some photo's. If it's good (and the price is sensible) I will pass on the makers details if he wants to build more.
Theres been a few attempts by the U.S. guys to source alloy tanks and matching seats, the unfortunate one being the Starace debacle in Italy, who promised lots but delivered little. I'll be keen to see the results but I imagine interest in repeat orders will only materialize if the price is reachable by what is a very small owners group.
Maybe try Spirit of the '70? They're planning to start selling seat units similar to what they did for one of their customers. Not exactly Imola style, but personally I prefer it. Spirit XI - Ducati GT-R
The Tank Shop, Aluminium Petrol Tanks For Motor Bikes Great quality. If they have anything in stock to meet your needs, you'll be a very lucky man. If they make something specifically for you, be prepared to be patient Tanks for Ducati Motorcycles | Tab 2 Classics| T A Baker | Alloy Motor Cycle Fuel Tanks | Ducati Fuel Tanks | Honda Fuel Tanks | Yamaha Fuel Tanks | Suzuki Fuel Tanks | Triumph Fuel Tanks | Norton Fuel Tanks May also be worth a phone call Good luck
Not sure whether these are from StarAce but they're in stock.... Ducati Sport Classic Imola Aluminum Tail and Seat Sure there's a forum member who's got the very same seat unit and tank ?
That'll probably be me then... The tank and seat are well made, can't say the same about the finish ! For some reason they decided to run an orbital sander over it with about 150 grit - ok unless you wanted a satin/brushed finish on the finished tank. MotoWheels in the US are really good to deal with but lead times seem to be a while on these parts for later orders from what I recall.
After waiting 8 months for the man from Bentley motors doing my tank, he has given up. MotoWheels it is then. Might even have it on this year. Thanks for all the support. I will post a photo when it's done.
Just spoke to Matt at MotoWheels. Six months wait for a tank and seat and £2280 at current exchange rate and before delivery. I will try some other routes first.
