So, once you have passed through the Nova application and you need to submit for Registration... I have the original C of C stating use in the UK - but it says in the DVLA notes the C of C must state the vehicle is in MPH and fit for driving on the left hand side of the road (a reference to high beam dip). They are obviously behind the times as newer bikes can be changed from KPH to MPH and have no dip bias - so the C of C doesn't actually state this. What do you do? Do I need to contact Ducati UK or Ducati Italy and will they issue a revised C of C with the correct wording for the DVLA? Bloody red tape!
If you MOT the bike and send all relèvent documents asked on the form, plus the COC you have, it will be fine. They will accept it
They will want the original. We always send via signed and tracked delivery, take photos of the original and a copy for your records.
The Passport Office lost my original birth certificate some years ago. I had a fair bit of bother (and expense) getting a replacement certificate but at least I have the satisfaction of knowing that my original has contributed to setting up some criminal scam or terrorist plot.
Reference COC... We came to France 6 months ago (from Canada)and brought both our bikes. It has been extremely hard to find anyone to give us a COC here. 1. Is there a difference between a French COC or a European COC or are they both one and the same? 2. As anyone else on here or that you know that had difficulties with there North American bikes brought over to Europe? I just contacted Ducati Bologna and have asked them for a European COC for both bikes. Any thoughts or comments are welcomed.
A French C of C will be an EU one listing all EU countries. It will be interesting to see what they advise in this situation so let us know how you go! I know they issue duplicates for a charge but not sure what happens when you want it changing...
All Ducati COC’s are readily available for all Eu bikes up until 2006. Before this date it’s touch and go as to whether they will issue one, though for registering a bike in the uk, any bike over 10yrs old will need an MOT and no COC is necessary. North American or Canadian Ducati’s imported into the uk , or any other Ducati outside the Eu will need an SVA test, basically an over the top MOT to confirm that lights conform and parts etc. Ducati will however issue build sheets which help with no Eu bikes getting registered. Hope this helps.
just for the record, you can register a bike without an (M) SVA test, but (certainly in 2016) the DVLA can insist on clear wording re: headlight orientation/speedometer type is included on C of C plus additional Type Approval form(s) to fill in.
