1198 In Gear Flexibility

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Proddieracer, Feb 1, 2015.

  1. I have recently [end Oct] bought an 1198 and due to the cold and me being a warm weather pussy I have only done around 50 miles on it so far.

I have gone down 1 tooth on the front sprocket and fitted air filter/slash cut Termi's and ECU to suit.

My question is around the ability of the bike to cope with lets say 40 to 140 in one gear, perhaps 4th. Can an 1198 do this or am I asking too much ?

I ask as my other Italian MV F4 312RR is able to happily do this and it makes it easy to ride over a number of bends without the need to dance on the gear lever.

  2. Al,
The key here is to get yours custom mapped to ensure the fueling is spot on. The big twin has the flexibility, the same way that any bike with >160hp has. Your MV is an IL4 with a fully custom mapped Microtec, so it is naturally smoother than your out-of-the-box 1198. But the 1198 has more 'natural' torque than the IL4, and it's the fueling you need to get right to allow the big twin power pulses to be user friendly at low rpms. Map it the same way you have the MV, and the smile is even bigger on the 1198 I bet...

  3. It'll shake you to death. 40 to 140 ? Stay in second.
