Howdo! Trying to find an insurance company that will insure my modified Ducati and agree on a set value. Currently tried: Footman & James, Ducati Insurance, Bikesure & MCE. Either they will insure with all the mods, however only at book price. F & J declined because it has carbon bodywork? Initially told I required a engineers report, which Rich at Moto Louigi did, along with detailed pictures and bills. However no joy :frown: Bike also has Ducati Immobiliser and GPS Tracker
I insured my 748 with MCE and was 116 pounds fully comp, so thought i better declare my mods as i have added a few bits recently, so told them about the carbon fairing and seat unit, marchesini wheels etc, and came out at only 117, but they would not insure the bike with the akrapovic carbon/titanium cans on, and the next price was double that, so they are now off
Carole Nash?? Might cost you a chunk over the odds but they're pretty damn good all round. Peace of mind and all that. Worth a try.
I went with Carole Nash, as below not the cheapest but agreed value and will try and replace bike/mods like for like not with standard stuff.
The main problem is also the change of engine :frown: waiting for the BikeSure rep to call back then I'll try Carole Nash.
Out of curiosity what sort of mods have people declared and what sort of value have they agreed? Also any stipulations on there policy's - limited mileage?? I've put down different engine (Including increased displacement), carbon bodywork, tank & wheels, up-rated brakes and suspension. Bikesure have come back with a policy that's doubled from last year but has agreed a value for the Ducati. £919 fully comp for GSXR1000K5 & my modded Superlight. I have to send in the engineers report, pictures and make sure the bike has sold secure/thatcham lock/ground anchor (Already got the ground anchor & chain), including sold secure lock when away from home. Need to find out a decent disc lock that meets the requirements for the policy.
Pablo when I first built my monster I tried doing that. I am now on normal insurance. Carole Nash is not all that rosy. They will do agreed value if bike is standard plus accesories and mods not total rebuilds liek yours. I told Carole Nash big bore, high comp, IE conversion to carbs, FCR, forks ..... they stopped me at forks and said they need to check then got back to me with NO. They said they do not insure custom built bikes ..... As far as I know what I done to monester was nothing more then slight, verging on average mods not more but in their book custom as front end was from another bike (749), part of engine from another and so on. Good luck, maybe they changed their approach.
Try Adrian Flux. My Pantah has loads of mods as you know, a few pictures and details of all the mods had me covered for a very reasonable price. The company is something like Bikesure, but all the email addresses are Adrian Flux.
Had exactly the same with CN declaring Ohlins forks - didn't bother going into engine mods. I've now not declared any of my mods apart from exhaust, but now thinking of saying it's got forks from a Ducati 999R and see what they say. Have to say I'm not happy, if you crash it and they inspect the bike they won't pay up....
Hi Nick did they give you an agreed value?? I did find a few that did all the mods but would only payout book price, which didn't reflect the cost of parts on the bike. The value was my issue and concern, Bikesure (Adrian Flux) finally got me sorted.
Carole Nash gave me an agreed value of £7k for my 996 with Ohlins R&T forks and rear shock, Marelli MT940 dash and sensors, Termignoni's, Corse Rearsets, 998FE single seat and tecnosel pad, carbon etc, premium was £439
CN did an agreed value, but Adrian Flux was much easier and cheaper. My bike is so far from stock but they were fine with it!
