Insurance For Bike With Modifications

  1. Hi All

Looking for some advise if possible.

I have a Ducati 899 and as good as the bike is I have decided to upgrade the bike with ohlins suspension and BST carbon wheels.

Of all the insurance companies I have tried they will all insure me for an extra premium(of course it's never lower) to have these modifications but they all say that if there was to be an accident which I hope doesn't happen they will only replace these items with standard equipment.

Does anyone know or recommend an insurance company that will insure me with these extras but will replace like for like if there was to be an accident and these items needed replaced.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I use Bikesure through Adrian Flux. Agreed value on a heavily modified bike. I needed to supply a spec sheet and photos, and it took a few days for a quote, but easy enough ;-)

  3. I'm insured with Carole Nash, heavily modified bikes (multi-bike policy) actually they called it a 'custom' bike policy.

As above, I gave them a list of mods and some photos and got an agreed value so if it gets stolen/written off I don't just get market value.

Not sure exactly how it would work if I was only claiming for parts? but as OEM Ducati parts likely cost more new than the 'upgrades' (Termignoni, Ohlins, Marchesisni etc.) it should be OK, fortunately not had to claim.

Initially only cost a little more than insuring a standard bike (benefit of being a 'mature' rider) but in the last couple of years the price has crept up - my experience tells me that this is normal if you don't change insurance company every year, just that it's too much effort to go through all the mods every time I speak to a new insurance company.

Here's a thought for any insurance bods reading - how about a policy that rewards loyalty rather than just giving a deal to get new business and then ramping your existing customers (who haven't claimed and their bikes are now a year older so worth less) policies up? :Meh:
