Insurance premiums survey (MTS1200 / UK)

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AndyW, Apr 17, 2012.

  1. Just had my renewal through, not even shopped around yet or even done my usual phone call to the broker "....that's not acceptable, what's your BEST premium to stop me moving?"

Renewal quote £391.10  (£336.27 last year)
Carole Nash (been with them for about 7 years!)
MTS1200S Sport (although I note they're still referring to the Touring)
    Modifications - non declared
Fully Comp - SDP & Commuting
    Age 50
Max NCD (no claims or convictions)
    Uk & Euro breakdown cover
£20m legal liability / £100k uninsured losses cover
    Foriegn use entitlement
Accessories - items that are permanently attached to the bike

Post up your insurance details as above for comparison........and a mention for any insurance companies/brokers that have given great service or are to be avoided (Carole Nash were brilliant when I had my crash;-)

  2. 40 yrs old rider - license for over 20yrs - no accidents

  3. The best quote I got was from ducati insurance, but no break down cover. A lot less than carol nash who I was with before. And I told them about the full Termi.. Give them a go.

  4. Mine isn't due for renewal until June but out of interest last night I put my details in on the tesco compare site.

The cheapest quote was £133!!! I'm currently paying a bit more than that but not much.

  6. .............and your location is?......................Shetlands?

  7. lol!

Funnily enough I did apply for a quote online earlier as I remembered someone else recommending them a while back
Ducati Insurance - online insurance centre
....as I came clean regards the Termi the end result was that someone would contact me.....we'll see.

Tony, who are you paying not much more than £133 with?! ;-) I will be wanting the breakdown cover though (not included with Ducati extended Warranty) and, according to Carole Nash, that's worth around £100 (not that I've checked anywhere for separate cover yet)

  8. 750 and change.
    No commuting, fully comp.
    No points.
    32
    Garaged, alarmed/locked.
    Guildford area.
    No pillion, no modifications.

My problem is mainly - my entire riding history has been overseas, entirely clean no claims since 2005. They take it into account (notarized documentation from the US) but I still have a sneaking suspicion I'm getting seriously ripped off.
    Aviva via Carole Nash

  10. No, Reading, Berkshire.

I got it wrong with what I paid last June, just checked & it was £104:42 with Aviva (largest UK Insurer) through the broker Motorcycles Direct. Excess is £250.

It included protected no claims discount but I did exclude pillion cover which isn't required for me & this can often make a difference.

As the bike is still under warranty including breakdown recovery I wasn't bothered about that but in reality it's only £30 - £50 depending on where you buy it from.

I also don't pay extra for legal protection as it is only of use if an accident is not your fault & in these cases there are 100's of companies out there that will take your case on for a no win no fee basis.

By the way, I work for an Insurance Company, not Aviva.

  11. £104.42?.......Wow! ...... Think I'd better move.

  12. Very interesting Tony.....I'll have to try a quote through Motorcycles Direct!

Good point re the legal cover......I actually declined Carol Nash proceeding with my claim preferring to use a Bristol solicitor that was recommended....on a no win no fee basis! So I've been paying for legal cover for no reason, doh!

GP.......ouch! I understand that Mericans are classed as high risk though! lol And you're a youngster!

  13. 2 years NCD, garaged, pillion cover, SDP only, max 4000 miles, 43 yrs old, Lincolnshire - £430 ish.

  14. I'm with Footman James.......£129 Full comp, proper recovery, unlimited mileage, 3 years (nearly, hopefully) NCD. Aftermarket exhaust declared.....Age not declared (well, not to you lot anyway....suffice to say I invented the motorcycle).........but......they have just advised me another 'broking arrangement' is about to occur so I have no idea of what the premium will do in September.

    AL.

  15. Just bought aa cover - 30 quid today. Just the basic recovery will do for me. Gets the bike home dealer can then pick it up.

Kept the legal cover on the bike but actually on car policy I cancelled - same mentality/idea plenty of lawyers out there if I need help.

  16. £246, F/C, 9 years N/C. 45 yrs young, Euro Cover, helmet & leathers cover, RAC cover. MTS 1200 S touring. CF38 postcode.

  17. ...with/through? ;-)

  18. I have just renewed in the past month and paid £193 via MCE, I have a dislike of MCE, but by the price took me to them.

I paid about £700 or just under last year via Footman James, but only because I had 3 years NCD with them on classic bikes which only they would accept on the Mutley, so had to stick with them to keep the NCD. They would not cover me this year???

I had a Termi stubby carbon end can fitted and MCE wanted £700 when I included that, having always liked the look of the original fitment, I decided to put that back on when I had it stripped down for cleaning. I just sold the carbon end can

    4 years protected NCD
    Age 50 years
    Riding 33 years

    Legal cover
Breakdown assist, but still have the Ducati cover as well as the bike is only 1 year old.
    45 days European cover
Kit and Helmet cover to £1000, but I think it is a separate excess of £100??
Ducati Alarm and I had to say it was factory fitted, as dealer fitted took the cost up about £200
Tracker and it works as me and AndyW found out when we moved the bike no more than 3 yards outside his house....
    Datatag
Pragmatis 19mm chain (from Torq Anchors) and Kasp 21mm lock (Chain and lock are heavy, I carry it in the top box, but so worth it)
    Xena disc lock alarm
And a just in case, a set of the Masterlock extended links Streetcuffs. RRP £99 in uk, £28 posted from USA on Ebay

I also just got the 390mm security pin for the back wheel from Torq anchors that fits with the 19mm chain, but uses a specific Squire padlock, Stronghold ss65cs closed shackle. A locksmith friend tells me the 2 locks I have are amongst the best in the world, he would not get past either of the unless using a grinder. Sh!t I've spent some money on security!!!

  19. chris I agree with you, although the bike sits at home during the night cosy in the garage I have also invested in security cable and ground anchor, because I think the biggest danger is a carry-off.
