Insurance quotes.

  1. Just got my renewal quote letter today and the premium went down again - as expected (now with 4 years ncb).

Went to Tesco comparison site and found some better quotes so will go back to current insurer and see what they can do about it.

Anyway, the point is that while fiddling about on the Tesco site I changed some details like adding pillion cover, upping the likely mileage, protecting the ncb and of course all the company's quotes adjusted accordingly (some by a big margin)............except one.

For some reason the quote from MCE insurance stayed exactly the same every time and they came up with the best deal every time by quite a distance. - weird!

So MCE offer comp.ins. with/without pillion, with/without prot. ncb, with basic RAC breakdown cover all for £175. - Bargain! :upyeah:

I spoke to a bod at MCE and the reason is probably because their compulsory excess is much higher than others at £800 - but no vol. excess.

Looks like a deal then. - Oh, and if I'd gone for third party only it would cost £98 ........ and TPFT? Only one company provided a quote, a mere £8,999.

So if you're quote hunting soon go to Tesco Compare and have a fiddle. I'd expect MCE to be the best again.

  2. Google MCE Insurance reviews, to see how much of a bargain you've got.

  3. I wrote off a 1098 insured with mce and had no problems claiming or with their pay out. iv now reinsured twice since with them.

  4. I used the MCN Compare site, found the cheapest and then got £40 cashback through Quidco!

  5. Just read some recent threads in the insurance section on here. - GULP!

    - Plenty of time before I have to renew so no probs. yet.

  6. See my thread... MCE quote for one bike... £7181 I didn't bother trying to add my second bike

  7. Yeah read that, a tad excessive.

  8. I am with MCE since last August, I have not needed to claim and I guess you probably don't really know what you've got until you have to make a claim.
They don't post you anything, and they send emails that say your policy is cancelled if you don't reply within a month, a spam filter could easily filter out one of these emails.
This and the fact they were much cheaper than anyone else means I don't have piece of mind and probably will not use them again.

  9. I always thought that the likes of MCE , Carole Nash etc etc are all just different front ends to the same and proportionally small group of underwriters. The only variant being how much "fluff" they add or commission they take at the front end ?

  10. Pretty much right, Psy. A good chunk of the quote reflects how much profit the broker wants (if higher) or how agressively the broker is trying to gain market share (if lower). The whole industry seems to revolve around attracting new business, rather than retaining existing customers. I assume this is because new business fetches more commission than renewed business.

I wouldn't mind so much but car/bike insurance is a legal requirement. You cannot opt out of the sick, twisted, greedy industry. It has some of the worst examples of financial cynicism within the free market but with no choice for consumers but to take part in it.

  11. I have been with MCE for three years with no problem, just upgraded the RAC breakdown cover to full national recovery for £37 .

  12. Just got Motorcycle Direct to do a great deal. £159 fully comp on a new multi, 300 excess, 2999 miles, pillion prot ncd etc.
The lady took the miles to 2999, rather than 3000 as that makes a difference. I guess I'm not the highest mileage rider out there though, so mileage seems to make a big difference.

  13. I'm with MCE, have been for 3 years. Fully comp for me is £200, very low excess, bike insured for £12000 (11 plate) 5000 miles a year with pillion cover and free RAC breakdown (only 10 mile recovery mind). Have had no problems with them but haven't claimed. Bike also covered in Selecta DNA stuff which brought quote down after they rang their underwriters. Bike kit cost me £37 and have marked all my expensive items in the home as well.

  14. Just to reflect that I to have had nothing but good service from MCE, even when having to claim for a no fault incident.
I came across from having a 2005 Tuono and nearly halved my premiums by moving the policy across to a brand new MTS. £150 fully comp, had to ask twice if that was right. Just shows how in insurance that perception is everything. In loony mode the MTS in my opinion steams all over the Tuono for power. Because the demographic of the MTS is considered more mature/sensible then that of a streetfighter, the premiums are less regardless of the bikes abilities. /shrug.
