Ok,picture the scene, man buys Monster 796 at Xmas and informs well known insurance company, clue, first name could be Gordon,of his purchase, pays additional premium £95 for the rest of the year.2 other bikes exist on same group policy,998+Triumph Bonnie. So far so good, thats is until man gets Termi's fitted by main dealer 6months later and thinks,"mmm, better inform insurance company of change, remembering that similar call took place last year with 998.Informed at that time, yeh no problem, duly noted, nothing extra to pay. However, this time calls something like this,"ok that will be £30 extra for change in policy details,ok I can cope with that. However its the next bit that hurts,"hang on while I inform your actual broker/underwriter",Unfortunately they will not allow you to be covered any more!or words to that effect. It was at this point I said,"ok I will ring back later to sort this out.So what to do now? A-do nothing and wait until Nov when renewal due and shop around B-ring them back and hope that the person I speak to this time is aware of what termi's are as opposed to the last person who didn't seem to know anything about bikes C-Shop around for a brand new group quote, taking the hit on the 5 months remaining on the policy Any advice welcome
my reply to insurance peeps is.....DO YOU THINK I BUILT THE BIKE FROM NEW?>>>>>>>DOES YOUR CAR HAVE ALL THE OEM PARTS FROM NEW?.......that shut's them up!
I wouldn't even bother as this could be classed as an optional extra and I certainly didn't declare my sunroof to the insurance company. I'd just run the policy as is.
Call them again to see if you can talk to someone a bit more knowledgeable and see if it helps? Otherwise shop around for someone who will cover the mods. Don't give your insurance company any excuse to cause problems if you need to make a claim. My bike is modified more than most, and I've had no problems getting a decent quote from Bikesure(Adrian Flux)
If its fitted and the bike gets written off, if you havent declared it you wont be able to claim for it. Technically but not informing them they could invalidate your insurance, but thats very unlikely. Personally, i'd shop around, but you will incur a cancellation fee if you decide to change.
I'd try and talk to someone that knows what they are talking about. Chances are you spoke to someone that is very new there and is reading from a script.
Well, I'd definitely be getting into high horse mode demanding justification for why a change of exhaust pipes on one bike out of 3 covered by the policy suddenly makes me such a bad risk I can't be insured. How do they work this out? You have to careful being refused insurance. Normally it's a question on a new application: "Have you ever been refused insurance?" If you answer yes, other companies may just refuse there and then. This is certainly what nearly happened to me though things may be different here in Switzerland. And they may not.
Latest on insurance shock Hi,follow up info on insurance refusal due to termi's being fitted.Went back to Be****ts insurance again who reafirmed the position on being unable to offer insurance any more on the Monster. No other choice but to cancel policy and ask for refund on reminder of policy up to Nov.£167 coming back minus £50 cancellation fee, although I only cancelled because they wouldn't cover me! Have now managed to get all 3 bikes insured fully comp/protec NCB/£1000 towards kit damage etc, blah, blah, blah,oh and 6 points on licence,3 coming off at Xmas, for £450 with Bikesure(Adrian Flux). No doubt someone is going to tell me I could have got it cheaper but he ho,just glad to be legal again.Ta
More or less the same within a few squid. As an aside, the Termi's sound amazing, advised by dealer to leave Db killers out for now until first service next month, they aint half loud though!!.Sounds crazy I know but I would love someone to ride past me a couple of times, just so I could get an idea of what they sound like when not on the bike!.
B******s are fkn knobbers...they like to get their tarts to show up at all of the bike events, splash their banners at all the bikes meets and then turn you down for a friggin set of pipes....real rock n' roll....
I did mine today through mce, the underwritten by Alfa Insurance, full comp, on two bikes full European cover return to home etc and was £170 ish cheaper than my existing, also got volentry excess at £550 which is protected and returned in a claim. £350 towards personal, although just one helmet is worth more, what did it for me is the European cover in case of break down I wanted to get the bike home no matter where I was and they agreed. Happy days, only called MCE after adding another thread on here.
Insurance is weird... I had a Canadian license for bikes before so when moving here I had to redo my license as they dont convert... bummer... so technically as far as UK is concerned I've had my license for about a year... sux with insurance... Anyways got my 900 Sport 2002 registered in 2011 I was paying about £90 per month... not horrible but bad... I upgraded to the 999 2005 recently with termis which insurance knows about... (fail), going from 80bhp to about 160bhp I was prepared for deadly insurance premium, called it in ... what do you know I'm now paying £80 ... £10 less a month, makes no sense... but I will not question it
try MCE like someone else suggested they've been good to me, my 996, and mutli only cost £360 for 15 months cover, they ask what extra's you have, however stipulate that bike will be put back to standard if the modified parts are damaged, I almost insisted on having all the extras listed but they said it wasn't required as it wasn't turbo/supercharger or high power gain items
The issue I have is that as far as UK is concerned I've had my licence for just under a year. I have 1.5 years no claim which they count as 1 year at this point... this is the cheapest cover I could find and it's third party only! comprehensive was about £1200 which is ridiculous... I'm with eBike. If anyone can suggest anyone cheaper I would be grateful, I'll check out MCE.
where do you live? as I am a member of Wey Valley advanced motorcyclists, linked with IAM it has helped save me a fair few quid, and gave me a better on road knowledge, I'm 45 and have been back on 2 wheels for 5 years, so think ive been quite lucky with insurance so far
I have a lot against me... I live in Reading, UK, I'm 24 (next year I've been told insurance should be cheaper....) I have had my license for about 8 years but have only had a UK one for about 9 months or so. I have 1 full year of NCD at the moment and about 1/2 way through my 2nd one. Ride ducati 999 2005. any advise is appreciated.
I was fed up with the online people as they make an admin charge for pretty much everything and are never particularly helpful in my experience. I went back to using an old fashioned broker. I could a pretty good deal I think, I speak to the same bloke each time I call and when I added heated grips for example there was no extra cost or admin charge. A much happier experience all round.
