Insurance using The VIN Number?

  1. Hi guys.

Trying to get my Ducati re-registered after export couple of years ago, but they want insurance, and the bike doesn't have its original Reg number? I have heard I can get it done using the VIN (Hastings Direct are the cheapest) but will only do it for 2 weeks, and it takes a month to get all the docs back from DVLA so any other suggestions????

    Cheers

  2. Try Adrian Flux. They were very good when I inusured a vehicle on a VIN.
    Steve.

  3. I had to do this when i imported my bike from Germany, most companies will insure your bike on the VIN for about a month.

You can also get it MOT'd on the VIN.

And it only takes a week or so for the docs to come back.

Pretty easy to do and no hassle either.

  4. My biggest gripe is with DVLA I sent off all the forms 3 weeks ago, including a SORN application as was told to do, then they sent it all back saying I failed to include fee and docs for insurance? Hastings Direct do insure on the VIN but only for 14 days, and I dont trust DVLA to get it together in time! anyway took the advice and called Adrian Flux, all sorted using the VIN for a year! cost almost twice as much as Hastings Direct, but you get a lot more extra's so cant complain (And Hastings customer service is really shit) spent an hour being put through to the wrong department yesterday! anyway its all sorted so cheers for the replies guys :)

  5. I restored a Lambretta a few years ago that had no registration number (import). My insurance company allowed me to insure it on it's VIN number for a month. I just called them up when I had it registered and they changed the documentation over. No problems at all

  6. Not "Hastings Direct" I bet lol, seems most companies can do it, but the cheapest ones only for 14 days?
