Intermittent issues on starting and locking the bike

  1. My Multi is about 18 months old now and I've had a few issues when it didn't want to "boot up" on the first attempt with the start switch, and also the steering lock not activating without turning the ignition on and off again. One final issue was a "key missing" warning the other night, even though it's in the same pocket as it always was (it went out after I stopped at some lights and moved off again).

I had the RH switch replaced a few months ago (before these faults) as I was having problems with it not switching off

Does the battery in the key fob need changing (and how easy is this), or is it something the dealer needs to investigate further?

  2. I would suggest you change battery in key fob

Not to difficult to do, cant remember which battery type it is, but they are easily available

  3. 3 volt CR2032 lithium ion

  4. You're not keeping your phone in the same pocket are you?

I had similar issues with mine, even after new battery, but I worked out it only happened when the key and my iPhone were in the same pocket.
Split them up, and have never had a problem again.

  5. If the battery is low in the fob a sign comes up in the circular window with a picture of the key and other data. The bike was due in for service the day this happened and the dealer said the battery was still ok and the issue has not repeated itself. Italian electrics!!

  6. Nope, phone is in the jacket pocket and key in the trouser pocket.

No sign of a battery warning, unless this was the "key missing" one I got?

  7. Key missing is adifferent warning to the low battery one.

  8. Not to be confused with low bike battery as opposed to low key battery! ;-)

  9. My bike fails to boot up at the first attempt quite often, I have fitted new battery to the fob but it's still the same. Sometimes boots first time other times 2 or 3 attempts.

  10. It did it again last night when I got home and wouldn't lock with the bars in one direction but OK if I moved the bars to the other lock. As I had a tin of WD40 to hand I gave it all a good old spray and (touch wood) it was fine today.
