Morning all This issue showed itself when on my first ride in June last year. After getting to the petrol station and filling up it would not start. All the dash lights came on but absolutely nothing when the start button was pressed. It happened again on Sunday as I was about to return home. I don't use the kill switch so that is undisturbed, I just switch off with the key. Any suggestions on what I need to start looking at? Cheers Dave
Am I jumping the gun and pressing start before the bike is properly ready? I don't rush for the start as soon as the key is turned, so maybe I should give it a while longer?
The 848/1098/1198 all have an issue with water blocking the transponder in the key being read by the immo antenna. The solution is to remove the ignition lock shroud, remove the ignition lock bolts (use the double nut method) and then place a washer or washers below the ignition lock bolts. The idea is to raise the immo antenna a couple of mm nearer the key transponder by raising the shroud. This should eliminate the problem.
Several suggestions above for you to try and hopefully one will be the culprit - as my memory fails, is it possible that there could be a lazy relay/starter solenoid issue here as another option. Also - try flicking the kill switch on/off a few times*. Had you been through rain/washed the bike not long before your last ride? *i can think of one Ducati/one Cagiva that i was forced to park in the rain in the past. As a last resort, a WD squirt around the kill-switch worked both times.
Thanks for the detailed reply Chris. In the 18 months of ownership the bike has not seen wet weather, I haven't even washed it yet. I have been in that area you mention to replace the ignition lock bolts recently. I think a previous owner 'fixed' the circular antenna to the lock surround with silicone sealant after fitting the carbon tank guard.
Thanks for the suggestions Chris. It lives in a garage and I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't cleaned it yet.
A failing crankshaft position sensor will result in no crank/start with yellow fault light. My sensor started to fail intermittent causing no start for a few minutes before coming back to life. A good thing to do is getting a diagnostic cable and guzzidiag so you can check the codes. On my bike, immobilizer error shows on the dash. https://www.lonelec.com/ https://www.von-der-salierburg.de/download/GuzziDiag/
