Interphone F5mc

  1. Looks like my headset is broke so looking for a replacement. Has anyone tried the interphone ? It get a good write up but what's it like on the road with full face helmet and earplugs ?

  2. I have one on my shoei GT Air, I ordered the shoei specific earpiece set up that clicks into the ready made spaces in the helmet. People don't believe I'm on the bike when I talk to them it's that clear, my brother just got one and he's very happy with it also.
I don't use earplugs though so can't comment on that.

  3. I used mine with earplugs and it was fine

  4. Sounds like good reports. I have a shark with ear pieces that pull out to give a recession for the speakers.
Thanks for the responses. Sounds like another purchase

  5. Ordered the unit from wheel up in Italy yesterday lunchtime and it's just arrived. Fantastic service and a good price.
Fitting/pairing it tonight all being well

  6. Love to have a go at these new Bluetooth comms units but just don't have faith in the technolgy. Having just spent a week fuggin about with my Zumo and phone I just can't face it. Plus Zumo to Phone to Comms looks like it blows the tiny brains of at least one of the units....if not mine

  7. With my old cheap units, pairing to the Zumo 660 and the phone via the sat nav was easy. Looking at the multi hub, it looks easy as well. Famous last words I know. I do have a range of sons from 15 to 24 who all like taking the p while they sort it out.
I mainly need it for sat nav and occasional music. I'd only use the phone when stopped but it stops taking helmet off etc

  8. Wot 'e says.

Also having phone hooked up when leading a group it allows the TEC to get in touch is there are any issues. When touring and you get separated from your mates, one or other pulls over, calls and finds out where the other is, arranges a place for re-group etc. Have also followed a m8 in an ambulance once, although his accident was miles away, ambulance crew called me three times to inform me that they were changing destination hospitals. Allowed me to arrive just after him, call and meet his wife etc. (thankfully he made a full recovery). Basically, reserved for emergency use and only answered when safe to do so. You can always pull over and call back and as said above, it saves taking your lid off. Never make calls on the move.

  9. I decided to chose this since it is the only really waterproof unit on the market (I really don't get why other manufacturers don't produce fully waterproof models). I have tested this on several occasions and it has performed flawlessly every single time (5 hours of pouring rain). I use it on a GT-Air, and have purchased the more loud version of the speakers (for earplug use). I almost never use it without earplugs.

    Pros:
Totally waterproof (being tested for two years now and it holds up well)
Excellent mic performance even when not properly aligned with my mouth (as KingFixer said).
Ease to identify which button is which with gloves on
FM tuner which is actually pretty sensitive
Announcements as to which menu you are currently in and which option you have selected.
Battery actually quite good. I can easily get music for 6-7 hours after two years of frequent use.

    Cons:
The upgrade to louder speakers is a total waste of money. Minimal loudness increase and horrible distortion when fully loud
No voice commands. Only can pick up the phone by speaking to the mic.
    Proprietary cables for updating/charging
The feel of the buttons is almost absent with gloves on. You can tell which button you are pressing but you can't tell if you actually pressed it.
You need to press a button to open the intercom channel (to the pillion). I find this the biggest drawback.

    Would like to see:
Better cabling, especially for a setup that is supposed to be directed to specific helmets. But it's ok
    Smaller footprint
    More frequent updates to firmware

I have not tested it together with other people's headsets, to see if they work well when pairing is needed. However, I have pre-paired the two units that I've got and they work fine. It lacks many of the more advanced features of other headsets but it's a good quality and finely built unit.

Hope it sheds some more light.

  10. Used the unit for a week in france Inc some snow.
The unit paired with the bike as did the phone but the Zumo didn't so I paired that direct with the the f5.
The Zumo did disconnect with the headset and then re connected randomly.
As the cables are bespoke for the headset it's another set of cables to bring along. Charging when on the helmet is also a faf as you need to find space near plugs etc.
The buttons aren't that great when dealing with gloves and not as easy as some reviews make out.
The volume isn't great when using earplugs but is about ok even at high speeds.
I've used the phone once when stationary so it worked fine. I don't intend to use it with the phone but will at some point use the intercom which really should be on voice command but looks like buttons need to be pressed.
Overall it's a good unit but like everything in life, it could be better

  12. I just bought a twin pack Interphone Tour package. Well worth it IMO. Paired with everything 1 touch and bike to bike is excellent !
