Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. It's a bit snooty in here for the 'faux' retros as they've been called. Much nicer on here Sport Classic - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum Pretty much all the relevant info you'll need too.
fantastic bike.......they'll always be a market for these bikes can only see them going up in value....a modern Classic, Classic if you see what I mean
NOT a bike for life . something else will come along and steal your eyes&wallet someday But - DAMN - that is one hot looking neo-classic bike wit a great engine. I want one! I always look for the engine first, then the bike to support the characteristics of the engine and this one must be the best fit for the torqey DS1000 Ducati engine (probably the best engine they made). With the handlebars up there it must be pretty usable too (with the clip-ons it is probably the worst Ducati made regarding riding position). But at 3 times the cost of a SuperSport I can't get one - yet. br Jim
lovely bike - must be one of them bikes they call a "usable investment" which I've never managed to get....
This is not a track oriented bike, those wheels are just as heavy as they are beautiful but the rest of the bike should be perfectly suitable for track use. I prefer my 999 for track though, it can almost follow all those annoying 600 cc rice-rockets... Some people upgrade the Classic with forged wheels, better brakes, forks etc. and that would make it a cool looking trackbike until the first crash. I think the spoked wheels are insanely cool looking and an important part of the Classic design. Biking is a hobby, which means that you DON'T have to see it as an investment or use any sensible economical rationales for getting one!! br Jim
Lovely bike! Got one in the same colour and no intentions of ever selling it Radihead R6 - quite a few guys on Ducati.ms takes their Sport Classics to the track. Especially the S model with fairings. There are even few converted into full on track/race bikes.
Thanks for all the compliments guys! When i said "a bike for life" i meant it like that. I´ve had a GSXR600, a Ducati Monster, a Ducati 848, a Ducati Multistrada 1200S ... and from all those bikes this one stands out for the looks and soul - hard to ride since it´s the most uncomfortable bike i´ve ever had BUT it has that soul that compensates everything else.
You can easily fit higher clip ons to ease the riding position, mine took a bit of getting used to. One thing I did find helped a great deal was the fitting of a bigger clutch slave, the heavy lever pull in conjunction with the riding position was a big strain and easing the lever pressure made the position of the bars a great deal easier to cope with. I think yours look as high as they can go, mine have a spacer that holds them about an inch lower than the top yoke but after fitting the slave I never bothered to raise mine. Ducati did make a specific set of higher clip ons for the SC range but I think these were identical to ST ones which also fit, if you know someone with an ST it could be worth measuring the height from the clamp to the bar to find out how much of a raise they would give, other owners have reported that even a very small rise in height makes a big difference..
Tarozzi also make a set of adjustable clip ons for 50 mm forks which accept the ducati bars so no need to remove any of the controls or reservoirs. I have got mine set to be horizontal which has improved the ride comfort but they don't look as good in that position.
