iPhone satnav on a 996

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Outliar, Apr 13, 2013.

  1. On my last bike, a Triumph Daytona 675, I used my iPhone as SatNav with a LifeProof waterproof cover and their bike mount. Worked well, only the battery life of the iPhone was a bit short lived. Anyway, worked well enough but it doesn't fit to the 996. Does anyone have a solution?

  2. Got a set off, I think its Bike Bits, which was waterproof case and power lead for about 40 quid The lead doesnt work, going back, but mate has it so just a duff one

  3. RAM offer a number of mounting solutions that work. They're not cheap though.

Powerwise I tap into my Optimate flylead with a 12v socket then use a car charger for the iPhone

Hopefully this works ram mount ducati 998 - Google Search

  5. I've got one,not mounted yet, but solid bit of kit. Welsh999 had/has one on his 999 and was very happy with it IIRC

  6. Not that I've seen much sun...but no, not on mountain bike or 848. Point worth making is unless your gloves are iphone touch screen friendly, if you want to do anything you will always need to remove one. This cover does work as a normal screen, my iphone-friendly gloves I use on MTB work fine and you can zoom around etc

  7. Thanks

  8. Just to update anyone looking into a mount, I finally bought a Techmount that fits around the top of the fork (53mm diameter model fits the fork diameter on a 996). Nicely made, will fit it today and post photos here.

The phone will be put in my LifeProof iphone case (water and dust proof) that i already have, and velcroed to the mount. I also bought an Optimate USB connector (new product, does away with the need for a lighter socket) that fits direct to the Optimate socket I have for the battery charger, so the iPhone lead plugs straight in. I plan to use Velcro straps to hold the iPhone charging cable against the frame tubes leading up from the USB socket to the mount.

    Photos to follow...
