I've owned my bike since Christmas, and haven't done many miles yet for obvious reasons. Its a S model with the touring pack and was purchased from Laguna at Desmo service mileage, which they did as part of the deal. If that rings a bell with anyone one here, and its your old bike, I'd be grateful for info. So issues; Oil leak from rear cylinder, fixed by dealer Broke down, recovered and fixed by dealer (gear position sensor) Wouldn't start one morning, the bike decided to do a suspension recalibration? Last night, refused to power down. In the end I just walked away, and when the key was out of range it switched off. Has anyone got any insights? Now a quick moan; how can it be so difficult to change riding mode? My last 2 bikes had a specific button, and you pulled in the clutch to confirm. This toggle switch on the MS is a nightmare, first of all, I'm wearing winter gloves, and you don't want to toggle it up or down, it has to be aligned with settings icon, has to be pushed for just the right amount of time or you're changing the riding mode properties, you have to be at a low speed, not using brakes! I can see why someone might just leave it in 1 mode! Finally, has anyone got a spare chain adjustment gizmo, or know where I could get one? Thanks
Is the battery fully charged? A low battery and cause all sorts of issues. I think part of the reason that the mode button is not straight forward to use is because the suspension settings change at the same time.
Thanks for your ideas, the battery was good enough to start the bike, I tried that so when I switched off maybe I could power off. I know I can't change the way the mode changes, I was having a moan I live in a city and Urban makes the most sense, when I get out to decent roads I'd like to change to Touring without having to stop, so I'm trying to change it at a set of traffic lights with banana fingers! DAj
When I first got my 1260 I was swapping modes frequently. These days I tend to only use Touring and occasionally Sport. The latter only really comes into play when I'm on smoother, curvy roads or my mate on his 996 is giving it the berries and I'm trying to keep up or get away... Granted I only live in a medium sized town so I'm out into the countryside in ten minutes.
Must admit the models I had, pre 1260, the modes were easy enough to change and certainly no harder than BMW. And I used two modes all the time almost every ride. Urban around town and touring (which I had set similar to sport) 90%. With the firmer sport when chasing people like Bumpkin
Make sure you switch the bike off with the button rather than the kill switch? From memory the dash doesn’t power down straight away when you switch the bike off.
You don't have to stop to change mode. Long press of button, scroll to desired....urban, touring etc. Release throttle.....voila. Or am i missing what you mean?
On every bike I’ve owned it’s not recommended to use the kill switch. That is an emergency off button, The engine management system wants to shut down the bike in a certain order and I suspect because there is a lot more going on after you’ve turned the bike off than just cutting the engine, it would be like shutting your computer down by just pulling out the plug?
When I picked my bike up from the dealer they said to use the kill switch to turn it off but that doesn’t mean it’s right. That said I don’t know where the button is so unless I can find it I’ll have to stick with the kill switch.
i'm a kill switch-er almost 100% albeit not on a 1260, but for me there is a design problem if you can't use the kill switch on a motorbike with impunity.
I'm a 50/50 user of the kill switch - however the Kill Switch should kill all the electrics on the bike as that is what you would look for and use if you come cross a bike on its side after a crash.
I don’t use the kill switch unless in an emergency. It’s an old Wives tail that the switch will wear out IMO but it’s that engrained as a habit I’ll possibly never not use the ignition switch. Only ever had course to use the kill switch on my Paso when exiting a motorway slip road and it just over revved when I stopped to give way.
I agree with @Ackers. With all the electronics on modern bikes, the system shuts down in a certain order checking as it does. The kill switch is an emergency stop button.
I had bmw Honda Yamaha don’t find the mode switch difficult to use .need long press and a quick throttle Off . I think your bike hasn’t had best servicing history. Stuck with it it’s an awesome engine a few things have been improved with the v4 like seat etc but love the v2 engine
