Alter the recorded mileage on an 1199? I do not want to know how, just if it’s something that is possible or is known to have been done in the past. I ask as I’m possibly interested in a track bike that is very low mileage. A bit of online research suggests the bike has only covered 14 miles on the last 12-18 months, hence the query Cheers
with Covid hitting last year there is also a good chance that this mileage is correct.. my 1299 has done about the same and its a road bike...
Have to confess, I reckon my 1199 has done around 100miles this past year. Not much last year either due to Covid, lockdowns and other circumstances. It happens.
Hmm. So the bike is currently advertised online with a small dealer. I have spoken to him, really nice chap who was happy to answer any queries and knows the bike well as he has looked after it on behalf of a client for an (estimated) 3 years, give or take. It’s a track bike that has been well loved and serviced and the bike has been used this year. All good there. Here’s the rub. The bike is also advertised on another website but by a different dealer (marked as sold) Out of curiosity I rang the second dealer and asked about the bike. The lady that answered was really helpful, knew the bike well as the owner (previous?) of the bike and her husband used to do euro trackday’s together. She guessed it was for sale with them around 18 months ago but couldn’t remember if it sold. The mileage shown in the images provided in the two adverts is almost identical (about 14 miles difference) which I’m finding a bit odd! I’m not too concerned about the dates that are being quoted as it’s likely neither where entirely accurate. The bike looks cracking and I’m keen to look at it. I’m just a bit baffled as to why the mileage has remained stagnant when it’s been suggested the bike has been used? cheers
Quite possible. As above really. I didn't use mine much in this period. Plus the owner might have more than one track bike?? Have you had a chat with the owner? Most lads running track bikes are bang on and open I personally wouldn't be suspicious the bike's had a haircut. Go and have a look at it. Stroke the chin a bit, kick the tyres and have a chat
Modern cars cross reference mileage with hours run and average speed. They all have to be within certain parameters so as not to look dodgy…
Maybe it’s similar… All I know is that if the matching units aren’t paired, the display just shows”____” where the miles should be. You can sync two different units together using a Texa but it will default to showing the higher of the two stored values if from different bikes.
Defo going to head up for a look. My ‘buying stuff modus operandi’ is…. Squint the left eye, raise the right eyebrow, suck teeth and offer a fasand pand less then it’s advertised for. it’s never worked yet!
Thanks for all of the advice all. After careful consideration, some tyre kicking and teeth sucking, I have just shook hands on my new track bike…….
