I've just tried to adjust my chain however one section is adjusted fine the rest of the chain is loose see photos attached. The chain is approx 1 year and 10000 miles old a did 530 . The gain is and has been well lubed and has scottoiler . Is it time to replace ?
Your sprocket tooth profile looks ok.With a scotoiler I would expect to get nearer 20k from a DID chain unless you're dragging away from lights or wheelying a lot. Sounds like you've got a bit of a tight spot where parts of the chain have stretched and others haven't. Not ideal to run like that as you need to adjust it for the tightest bit. Replace if your wallet is fat but you'll probably get another 5k+ from it then fit chain and sprockets.
OMG....look how greasy and dirty that chain is! And the exhaust header pipe hasn't been cleaned in ages.... The Ducati "thought police" will have you for this......As they did me.....
To be fare that chain has just done 2.5k miles in a week and not been cleaned yet. I was just adjusting before i cleaned the bike but if I ever start cleaning the exhaust headers I'll realise I don't have enough fun things to do I'm praying for the exhaust to rot through so I can say to the wife the termi was just a straight replacement coz it broke I guess I'll just have to replace I had hoped the scottoiler would have helped get 20k out of it. Thx all
That chain is shot - mine was the same and I did a Euro trip on it regardless. In towns the chain slap was horrendous, not a problem when high speed cruising (the lads reckon it was whipping up and down as if it wanted to jump off though), but the gear change became very notchy - wish I had changed it out beforehand. As said, the sprocket looks ok, but the front may well be hooked? Not worth trying to save money on the rear sprocket IMHO?
