899 Is My Quick Shifter Broken?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by psych0hans, Feb 20, 2018.

  1. Hi guys, I've been trying to get my quickshifter to shift without pressing the clutch, but almost everytime I try chlutchless upshifts, I need to let go of the throttle to get it to shift, something I do all the time on my non quickshifter bikes. The other day I had the pleasure of riding a friends Tuono V4 Factory, which had clutchless up/down shifts and the clutchless shifting was pretty much effortless.

Am I doing something wrong, or is my bike broken? Thank you!

p.s. one more thing I should note is that when I try rolling my bike in 1st with the clutch pulled in, I can feel pretty strong resistance, but when I put it in neutral, there's no resistance whatsoever... Do I need new clutch fluid, or plates? The oil was changed less than 1,500kms ago with motul synthetic.

  2. Doesn’t sound right. Check the dash and make sure the Quickshifter is enabled !

  3. Ohhh, I didn't know it could be enabled or disabled... I'll do that first thing when I get home, thank you! Any idea which menu I should look under?

Pic for reference... Is the DQS on or off?

  4. Pretty sure that the DQS on the dash indicates that it is switched on... As mentioned above, what you're describing doesn't sound right. So you may have an issue

Edit to add: does the DQS remain on the dash once the bike is running? It is reasonably easy to navigate the menu to check if it is turned on... Maybe cycle it off/on while your out for your next run and then try it again??

If you do have an issue it could be the sensor by the gear change leaver that is U/S? @nelly may be able to offer some guidance too?

  5. Im about to take my 899 to the dealer within the next couple of hours. Normally I have DQS switched off for Sport and Race (its doesnt show DQS on the dash) but Ill switch it on and let you know what happens

  6. as Ben said - "DQS" displayed tag on dashboard means that it is enabled. If the throttle isn't dying down when you put 'upchanging' pressure on the gearshifter then something isn't right and needs investigation. Plugged in ok etc?

  7. Hi guys, the DQS was definitely on, will need to have it checked out. It’s been on the diagnostic tool a couple of times, but nothing came up. Might need to call the SVC tomorrow and make some enquiries. Thanks for all the answers guys! Y’all rock! :kissing_heart:

  8. Just to finish up, with DQS on and displayed on the dash I was able to change up without going anywhere near the clutch

  10. That’s what my dad says... Except he wants to see me on a Ninja 1000... HOW can I move to a ninja 1000 after riding this sex on two wheels motorcycle? Blasphemy!

  11. Japanese stuff gets plenty of recalls or problems these days too to be fair. Gsxr1000 has a stop sale notice in them, Honda are having a bloody nightmare with the blade and the R1 had an engine out recall a couple of years ago.

Has the shift rod length been messed around with?

Have you adjusted lever position at all?

Is the harness under the seat clean and plugged in correctly?

Also try cleaning shifter sensor and spraying some penetrant oil into the part of the sensor that moves and work the lever up and down. If shit gets in they can play up.
