Is Service From Official Dealer Required For Warranty?

  1. ...to be entitled to full 2 yr warranty?
I did my first service at the dealer who sold me the bike, but I now wanted to have the bike serviced by Rosso Corse [incidentally i hear they are very good?]

    thx!

  2. Technically speaking a service has to be done only by a VAT registered dealer and using genuine Ducati parts, that's the law side.

If a fault occurred though tags related to a missed element of the service, Ducati could well argue successfully that the workshop didn't have specific Ducati trained personally as long as that directly related to the cause. For example, a loose oil filter that caused oil starvation through leakage, well that's the independent dealers fault and u would have no cover other than their liability cover which may have a limit.

If u had that happen from a main dealer u would be covered.

I'm not personally against using specialists, someone like JHS for example would never be questioned as to whether they have more 'feel' for an engine than most main dealer techs, but there is a difference between what is the best service and what is the legality of warranty

  3. Yes, it needs to be done by an authorised workshop. The law is different with cars and bikes unfortunately. Ducati lay out the provisions in your warranty book.
It'd be less of a problem within the warranty period, but it could void the warranty nonetheless. Any further "goodwill" on going post the warranty expiring would be negated though.
Tbh, with the new bikes, it's worth rolling it into a dealer as you'll get any tech updates or software updates that have become available. It's not all done thru recall, only the safety related stuff.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  4. I agree with Nelly, the warranty is only 2 years, so likely to be 3 services at most unless u do horrendous mileage, I would stick with a dealer for this time to receive software updates etc then look at a good independent

  5. thanks I will then. It's just that last time I went to Metropolis in London I was furious with their unhelpful/arrogant attitude (let alone inability to solve my problem w/my bike) that I would rather try somewhere else... the head of servicing there is quite a piece of work really!

  6. Maybe head out of London a bit? I was happy with the sales service and after care at P&H which are in Crawley, would recommend. Further out there is Snells in Alton, but even Pro-Twins in Surrey get good feedback so worth just trying somewhere else?
